I am also very curious on the weight of that big boat (that size might actually be defined as a ship). I haul a 10,000 pound travel trailer, sometimes with 1200 lbs in the bed. I can't believe the difference of diesel hauling power compared to my gasser.

What did that 1970 something set you back about $2,500.00 or so.):h ):h ):h
I would be willing to bet you just about anything that your "jet drive" boat will not go 85MPH. In fact it maybe will hit 65-68 mph tops. Sorry, some of us do know what a jet can and cannot do. Let me guess, you have about $7,500.00 in the pump alone, Right???????????????????????????????
Lets post more accurate info here, this is not a bragggggging site.

my dad almost sank a 1972 jet boat several years ago. 18' V bottom. got a waterski rope cought in the intake. my dad took the CAP of the jet drive off to get it out while we were in the middle of the lake! all of the sudden, there was a hole in the bottom of the boat the size of a coffee can. he was racing to pull the rope through and capped it just in time. we had everyone on the tip of the bow to keep the rush of water from coming over the rear transom. we prob had 30 seconds left.
turns out that it might have been better if it sank... my dad still has it in storage and it has worn into very sorry shape :(

dwrat 04-16-2005, 09:19 PM No, nothing like that at all, just tried of him posting about this very nice boat. This is the second time with a look at my boat post. Come on, the first post I think I even stated something like "very cool". I guess some people need the extra attention and other are cool with just a little attention. No big deal with me, I just wanted to say how I felt. Just for the record, I love your boat and I am sure it cost tons of money. Just don't know how many time you need or want to hear how cool it is.

dwrat. I guess not everyone can have as nice of $#@! as you. Apparently you don't know everything about jet drives. Any time your in michigan and you want to go on a 85mph ride you let me know.
dwrat 04-16-2005, 11:46 PM Kroutman, I wil be in that area July 15-22. I will take you up on that offer/bet. Please PM your info and lets see if we can get this done. I did not say a jet cannot do 85 mph, it is just VERY rare for one to even hit 75 mph unless you have dumped some serios cash in it.

dlh has a total of 13 posts on the DP. I went back and read them and IMHO like many, heck most of us, he's done nothing more than express his excitement with his new truck and wants to post what he is pulling with it. :D
Granted 99.9% of us DP members likely can't afford that boat since it cost more than most houses, yea put JJ in there to, but dlh can and we should respect that. ;) Doesn't matter if he paid cash or is paying monthly, like many of us he obviously likes his toys! :ro)
It's not too late to bring this thread back in line with our normal DP standards. :) Most of us will never meet face-to-face, we forge these "internet" relationships based upon a common interest, our trucks! It's so easy to state something on the forum that doesn't represent our true intent and step on toes, OR just have a bad moment and not choose our words too closely. :o: Let's just say that's what happened on this thread and move on. ;)
Kroutman/dwrat, nothing wrong with a well intentioned gentlemens wager, especially if it entails a nice boat ride to boot! ):h Hopefully the loser takes the high ground and buys the first cold one. :grd:
Almost forgot, dlh what kind of wheels and what size tires are on your friends dually. I have that same color and I really like the looks they bring to that truck! JJ's out! :)
Boats #9800
Trailer #2050
Use to pull it with a 2002 V-10 Excursion getting 5MPG, pulling with the D-Max I get around 8.5mpg but this has only been local, no long strech on the highway yet, I expect in the high 9's mpg then. We usually take two trips to FL one in Nov. one in Feb. pulling for 3000 miles down and back and the Ex worked fine locally but on for the long highway rides it was borderline safe. I got the boat back last Feb with a freinds dually and there was no going back to towing with the Excursion after that.
Thanks for the good words.
Kroutman/Nice Jet ride most of those I've seen are out west not many of those up North or East

I'm up in the backwards (backwoods?)of VT quite often, right in the Burlington area, drop it in Lake Champlain huh? About your only option :D
People have no idea of the size of the lake ;)
Maybe some day I'll see you. I'll buy our fuel you buy the boat fuel and tell you a story Ice Fishing with my Gramps (may he RIP) and he telling me to keep my hand on the door handle in case we have to leave her in a probably 5K Plymouth Fury
Mister if that don't scare the pants off a youngster which I was at the time, with the ice "ping"
sierradmax 04-17-2005, 11:40 AM I just got my truck and I intend to use it to pull a 26' flatbed trailer with 4 fullsize atvs. Maybe one in the bed. Other times, it will be used to pull a bobcat 763 with a 709 backhoe attachment, a bucket, auger, forks. Probably around the 10,000 lb. range
I'm up in the backwards (backwoods?)of VT quite often, right in the Burlington area, drop it in Lake Champlain huh?We were in yesterday and today. So pretty much every week end till October! Just email or PM for my cell phone and next time your up if we can line it up lets go for a ride.
formula280ss 04-17-2005, 08:17 PM Glh,
About a year ago I was driving to my boat and pulled in for some fuel. I see a boat just like yours pulled by a Bummer H2! Mind you we are driving up I-294 North of Chicago. Turns out the guy is going to my home port.
The but end of the Bummer was almost dragging the ground with that much weight. Latter that day, I did see that the guy made it one piece, but the boat would not start!
LBZ DMAX 04-17-2005, 09:10 PM If the title of this thread was 'what are you haulin', I'd say hauling some a$$! ):h But since it's not, I'm pulling a 26ft. Chaparral Sunesta. Nothing like that sweet 42 footer  :ro) , but it gets the job done! :D
sadolph 04-17-2005, 10:20 PM I bought my Duramax to tow my 26 foot powerboat primarily. I also sail boats at a local sailing club. I'm now quite popular as a crew choice, as people have realized I have the only truck in the club that can tow a 30footer easily. I get lots of free beer, especially around launch and haul out.
First long distance tow with the power boat, I was worried about a long hill I knew of along the route...about 3 miles long, maybe 5 percent. Anyhow, I wanted more truck than was really needed, just so I would have no trouble towing 7000 lbs+ trailer. Hit this hill at 100 kph and the truck did not even pop out of overdrive..the turbo just spooled up gently and up the hill we went. Just awesome.
It's a crew cab, so the other good use for it is big road trips, travelling to sailing regattas, towing as many racing dinghies behind it that I can. Recently drove to Chicago to bring 2 16 foot sailboats back to Canada...two guys round the clock driving, one guy can sleep in the back no sweat. Great road trip rig.

Latter that day, I did see that the guy made it one piece, but the boat would not start!I know a couple guys that pull with Hummers they fool themselves into thinking it goes well but a Hummer is rated at something like #7000 for trailering, and anything above 30 ft boat wise will be over that. If an accident happens the first thing his insurance company will check is if he was over the limit and then weasel out of paying any claim.
I think he's taking a big risk.
nlvcc 04-18-2005, 10:31 AM im pulln a 29ft aljo superslide 8000lbs plus 2 quads an a motor cycle in my bed still pulls sweet
towin43 04-18-2005, 11:04 AM You can see from my sig what I am towing. From my board name you can tell that once completed, I will be towing my friend's 43'4" Sunsation F4 (assuming it comes in at 10,500 lbs dry as planned). And yes, he paid cash for it. Heck, if ya got it, I have no problem with ya flaunting it! Nice boat GLH. Your avitar looks familiar from OSO.
Ridge Runner 04-18-2005, 02:36 PM Now thats a nice looking boat, glh. I hope you are injoying it.
I purchased the truck to put our 34' Airstream and it pullls and handles it very will. Had a 6.5 GMC, just didn't have it on the hills. Safety first is what I think when pulling a heavy load, for me and the other folks on the road.
:grd:
Towsaboat 04-18-2005, 09:44 PM It's not a 40 foot cigarette, but at least the colors match.
Tows in at about 6000 lbs which I know a bit too light for the Max. Can't even tell she's back there.
The Duramax replaced a 91 K1500 when I blew the transmission on one of my 400 mile one way trips to Lake Powell. The drive used to take 8-8.5 hours with 3 gas stops. Did it Sunday in less than 7 hours with two fuel stops, and I had stopped for fuel about 70 miles short on the way down. :ro)

I am towing a 2005 28' Airstream International CCD. 14.5 mpg while towing the silver bullet! That looks like awesome milage while pulling how much does that thing weight?
Idle_Chatter 04-23-2005, 11:24 PM Here's what I pull - 6x6x12 Cargo Express. Sometimes only containing my golf cart and incidentals - sometimes loaded to the max!
redeagle313 04-24-2005, 12:36 AM That looks like awesome milage while pulling how much does that thing weight?
It weighs about 5600 empty and is GVWR is 7300. I was probably at about 6100 for the trip home from the dealer (150 miles ) when I recorded this mileage. Airstreams are noted for their aerodynamic qualities, and it seems to be true.
:D
tbyrne 04-25-2005, 01:01 AM VERY nice boat glh! :)
I pull a 32' ATC (Aluminum Trailer Company) car hauler -

Doesn't matter if a person owns what he has or is paying the bank for the rest of his life (and longer). It's all about having it and enjoying it. That's why I have the :) after my comments above.

coyotekid 04-25-2005, 04:05 AM My question here is: who gives a **** how the guy got it?
I take crap all the time because I'm a college kid driving a new diesel truck--what business is it of theirs? The last time I checked, I'm the only one paying for it, and I don't feel that I've negatively impacted anyone else's life by having a nice pickup.
So, with that being said: Congratulations on everyone's toys!

I had to take the WW in to have some warranty items checked, but you could go to any WW dealer, Giant RV is the only place I know of 'round here, and measure between the wheel wells. My jeep has stock width axles, but I added 3.75 inch offset wheels and 32x10.5" tires... The tires must stick out past the flares 3" on each side, and it slides in with about 2" on each side.
Otherwise I will have the trailer back on Thursday, and could measure for you.
Wolford 04-30-2005, 12:48 PM Lets see: Two Z-Traks or two JD 495's and on the real busy days the old dodge gets stuck pulling those around and the D-max pulls a T 200 bobcat with the bucket and the power rake on the front of the trailor. The bobcat and trailor together weigh in at just under 10,000 lbs.

Need to see some pictures of this rig. 53' is what the big rigs pull, very impressive.:thumb: How many of you guys pull close to the limit or dare I say over the limit for these trucks? How do they handle at these loads?
Marbee40 05-09-2005, 10:59 PM My 30' Toyhauler is rated at 13k fully loaded (h20, fuel, toys, food, etc). I'm running a 2500hd CC with the Juice/Attitude and I swapped out the factory hitch for a Class V with W/D hitch. I haul over Julian from San Diego to Ocotillo and it pulls like a freekin freight train. Every now and again the EGT on the Juice bleeps. I ordered the Kennedy 4"/5" exhaust to alleviate some of that and will report, but otherwise I'm one happy dude!

Tom Cobb 06-09-2005, 12:40 AM Car haulers, boats, horse trailers, travel trailers and anything else with a trailer hitch. Largest was a 48 ft car hauler and heaviest was a 31 ft luxury horse trailer listing for $98,000.00. It weighed approx 13,500 lbs. On the AZ scale GCWR was 21,900 and I was not quite full of fuel. At fill-up I was over 22,000 lbs. I also hauled a 5th wheel that was about that same weight. Others were in a variety of sizes around that. I haul for individuals and manufacturers. I have driven 39,500 miles since 2/10/05. Mine gets plenty of towing.

He drives a 92 Dodge...so his post is irrevelant as the topic is what do you pull with your duramax.

Wildcat 28RK. Not that heavy of a load compared to most things post here. 17,100 lbs. GCW.
BRUCE 09-01-2005, 07:39 PM 34ft Wilderness TT 9000lbs pulled with 04 GMC lb7 crew 2wd short bed. Just towed 8600 miles across country, great job buy truck. I was a little disapointed at towing mileage ( 11-11.5 ) because mileage every day is out of site, 19-21.
mr_farmboy 09-04-2005, 05:00 PM here is a picture of my truck with a heavy load.My John Deere 8200 on the trailer. Sorry had to link it??
:hail:
All I got to say is that I feel sorry for that trailer! Looks like it was flexing a bit. That load definately takes the cake....I KNOW the 8200 is heavy. Kinda makes pulling a boat around seem like carrying my 3 year old son piggy back!
Awesome pics in your album.

Road Boss 10-03-2005, 12:06 PM Nice truck and trailer!
bullydog 10-04-2005, 11:50 PM mille-ryan, what's that trailer that the bobcat's on rated for? It looks pretty small. Was pulling the 773 bobcat around today. Trailer and cat about 7500 pounds. I like my fifth wheel/gooseneck trailer better, as they just distribute the weight on the axle and not on your rear end. Truck pulls the weight really good though.
mille-ryan 10-05-2005, 07:56 PM Bullydog, the trailer is rated at 12000 lbs and I think that cat was weihging in around 6000 lbs or so.I didnt really like pulling it , it felt weird.I had to take a mdel 2 sizes up to my father in law with that trailer and it weighed like 8200-8500 lbs, and it towed great, now it took up a lot of damm trailer too, lol.I had borrowed the trailer for work, so I wasnt *****in.

Big_Gunz_ 10-05-2005, 11:32 PM Just picked this up on Monday, 06 Thor Vortex 365WTB SS toy hauler. I also tow a 03 Monterey 218LS boat.
63teamster 10-06-2005, 02:03 AM BMDMAX,
What does that hoe weigh? I see you have an aluminum trailer so must be around 1000 lbs lighter than steel. Am wondering if its safe to pull a Case 570 or approximate w/ my 2500 and a steel gooseneck. Any info appreciated.
BMDMAX 10-06-2005, 10:29 AM The hoe weighs in around 8K. My older steel equipment trailer handled the weight just fine but it was really too short to effectively tow it well.
My aluminum trailer will handle a 12K load so subtracting the trailer weight (2,600 pounds) you get a 9,400 pound payload capacity. I was shooting for 10K payload so I got pretty close with the setup.
The newer Case 570 loaders weigh in at about 10,000 pounds. They have been around forever and I don't know if the older ones weigh any less. 10K would be a safe assumption. You need to check the trailers GVWR on the label to see what the axles are rated for. Take that weight, subtract the trailer weight and that will tell you if you can safely load the 570. You should still be okay on the GCVWR if the trailer can handle the load. How big is your steel gooseneck trailer?
63teamster 10-10-2005, 01:37 PM We havent bought it yet, still waiting on a house to sell, just doing some research so that i get the right equipment the first time.Probably looking at an 18' or so w/ beavertail, gooseneck, deckover
AndrewFessler 10-10-2005, 01:43 PM Past experience for me has been that whenever I was buying a trailer for what I thought was the right length, I should have gotten one 5' longer.

http://img419.imageshack.us/img419/5202/5erfromside16ze.jpg
This was the first time he had his new truck hooked up to the fiver. It's a 30' Shasta Phoenix (300FL) front living room. Sucker is WIDE!!! Lots of room even without slides! We just wanted to check lights and brakes and bedrail clearance...all that good stuff. It didn't go anywhere of significance, maybe 2 feet forward, then back to where it normally sits, or I'd be up on the roof putting a new TV antenna on!!
Mine, well...let's just say it earns it's keep by hauling my fat *** around and to work and back. The turbo sure needs to spool on the highway to keep me runnin' down the road. ):h ):h :D 'Specially when you're running 80 and you just hear a constant whistle. THAT is cool!
Salmonbum 10-13-2005, 07:44 AM Wow,
how heavy is that load Salmonbum?
I'm sorry, I just saw it now..... I'm guessing about 12-13K with a good amount of fuel on board
