I have a question, it may be stupid but I want to know the answer. I know that the front suspension for a 2500HD and a 3500HD is the same exact thing. Now is the only difference between a 2500HD and a 3500HD that it has a few more leaf springs in the rear? Are the frames different? Tires?Rims? Drivetrain? Assume that both trucks are regular cabs with a duramaxx. Thanks

I think the difference is one more leaf spring and the 3500 has a different rear end gear. I was told this not sure if its true.

Im thinking the 3500 has extra one or more leaf springs, but i could be wrong.

Different leaf packs. Some say the 3500 gets heavier torsion bars but who knows. The 3500 gets steel 16in. wheels, don't know if they are any stronger, but they sure are uglier! I often wonder if the frames are the same, I assume they are. If you get a Duramax you get the AA rear axle either way. I wonder you get the 6.0 in the 3500 if you get the AA axle as well? I bet it comes with the standard 14 bolt rear. If you order a truck sometimes the 3500 is cheaper for no reason. You cant get a short bed in the 3500 though. What you are really buying is the gvrw sticker on the inside of the door. The 3500 door badges will cost you more money at toll booths, some on here swap 2500 badges just to save money. I like the door badges so I would get the 3500...

all duramax 2500 / 3500 have a 3.73 rear (front) end.
the 3500 has a different rear spring pack, the drw has a factory overload.
the front ends *should* be the same, the duramax / allison / cab weighs the same, and a VERY small portion of bed weight ends up out front (unless you load the bed wrong).

Yeah they are the same except for the 1 extra spring and the badging.
Doesn't the rear end depend more on the engine/trans combo rather than the model??

yep all Duramax and the 8.1L got the 11.5" AAM axle the difference like most have said is the spring pack and the door sticker

so technically if you bought a 2500HD Crew Cab short bed, took it to a company that replaced springs, had them put in the spring pack for a 3500HD, then the truck would be considered a 3500HD Crew Cab short bed? Right?

technically, yes, you'll have the exact same thing as a 3500 single rear wheel, except a short bed.
But dont say that in front of any 3500 SRW truck owners, they get pissed off. :D

I have an 3500 srw and I recently found one more difference or not a difference, depending on what this thread is trying to prove? 2500 vs 3500 dually or drw vs srw? The 2500 (and 3500) srw axles have .212" tube thickness. Yikes, when compared to other similarly sized axles! Dual rear wheel axles are .559", heck, even I didn't know that.:D
