I have had my 04.5 LLY in three times to attempt to have repaired. the last dealer gave me a bulletin from GM about the problem the Bulletin # is 1603250

I cant scan it in so if some has access to it and can post it may be helpful to others with the problem.

Basically it says reflash, check balance rates, verify surge condition, if it still happens " DO NOT ATTEMPT REPAIR'S ENGINEERING IS INVESTIGATING THE PROBLEM AND YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED WHEN THE INFO BECOMES AVAILABLE"

So for what it is worth to those of you with the problem, I guess the reflash fixes many but not all. And based on my experience with GM and am told the above to date they never came up with a fix for my other two GM vehicles, time will tell, but I also recommend that if you do have the problem you get it documented by a dealer that way if you are beyond your 3/36 you wont have to pay the $100 deductable.

Thanks for the info, my LLY goes in on Tuesday next week for the same problem. Lets hope the Re-Flash and check will fix the problem. If not I will drive it for a day and bring it right back in. No way I am going to drive a truck with a problem they can't fix. That is like asking to get stranded in the middle of nowhere at 2:00 in the morning.

Same reply I got in Sept. '04. I guess the GM engineers should contract this out, or maybe they haven't gotten to it yet. I am sure my mileage will go up when this fix is found ( have a bad one, 15ish mpg.), as excess fuel causes surging in a diesel and the surging happens at cruising (light) throttle positions. I'll keep lurking. Thanks Geo.

Well I took it to another dealer same result, yesterday to it back to my original dealer and they said sorry have to wait for GM. Chevy customer saervice said they will look into but I don't have my hopes up.

Well in michigan its 4 strikes and your out and I gave them 5. I got the shaft on the piston slap in my 6.0 and am not going throught that again, as it left a much doubt about GM looking for these types of repairs.

The worst part is I buy a new GM every year or two and their attitude is like OWELL we get to it when and if we can.

Good Luck to all of you with this problem, maybe yours won't be as bad as mine. I will let the professionals deal with it from here.

Just a quick update:
Took the truck into the dealer yesterday. After 8+ hours of diagnosis time, they determined I need 1 new injector. Ofcourse, they don't have any on the shelf and had to order it. I asked the service technician if they re-flashed the ECU, he said I don't think so, but I am sure they will do that when you bring it back in for the injector replacement.
This is the second time I have asked for the ECU to be re-flashed.
If they can't get it done on the third try, I will just threaten to go to the Ford dealer across the street. :muahaha:

My LLY went in on Thursday.
Replaced the #3 injector, checked the ECM, said I have the most recent version of the software, which I find hard to believe, and for now the stumble and rough idle is gone. I am going to drive it for a couple weeks, while I wait for the new door moldings to come in, and see what happens.

Go to Kennedy diesel and take a look at what he says about your problem.
