I changed my fuel filter lastnight and i almost fellover when i seen the garbage that came out of both ends! I threw it in a 5 gal white bucket and by the time i got through shaking the fuel out of the filter the entire bottom of the bucket was brown with rust, looked to be metal grit, water,a few chunks of something the size of a small fingernail, dirt and i thought i seen the kitchen sink in it also. So, no damn wonder why injector problems, that sh&t would clog the drain in my house!

BTW: should crap be comming out of both ends of these filters? Which end is the clean end? Mine puked out both ends!

Dont the stations have fuel filter inside the pumps? If not, dont the fuel get filtered somewhere down the line besides in my truck?

What kind of diesel you talkin about. Sounds like you have an inline filter. Duramax filters have a drain end9bottom) which is also the supply or input side of the pleated filter inside. You can get dirt and stuff out of this side. The big hole on the screw in part(top) is the output and you shouldn't get anything out here except clean fuel. If your getting crud out here your filter has come appart inside and it bye bye injectors.

The small holes around the edges are where the "dirty" fuel from the tank enters the filter. The "clean" fuel leaves the filter from the large hole in the center and makes its way to the injection pump etc.

Another endorsement for changing the intial OEM fuel filter before 15k miles. IIRC J/K recommends changing the first time somewhere around 5k miles since there appears to be a lot of crap in the engines from assembly. Pretty sure he runs extra filtration to.

Some stations have filters, others don't. I try to use stations that have filters since it is an indication they care about what they are dispensing and hopefully less likely to have water in the fuel as well. I know, just a hope though! :o:

Just be glad you got to that filter before that crap got to your injectors. JJ :)

If you did find "the finger" in there, contact a loony lawyer (98.5% are). He will guide you from there

Do we really need that special wrench to change the water censor?

Knock on wood. I just changed my OE filter after 40K miles. The first time I changed it around 10K and had about an inch of black used media on the bottom of the filter, zero rust. This last filter was in the same condition. About an inch of used media and no rust. Difference is in those last 40K I've been running a preCat setup and changing every 8K to 10K, (shorty). All I have to say is the OEM is a PITA to change!!!!! Any pre OEM is worth every penny just on convenience alone.
