: Injector Trouble ?

A friend I mentioned here before has just hit 198K with the OEM injectors on his early 02 with only stock filtration. He has it at a local shop because about 70 miles ago he noticed oil being sprayed from the vent tube to the underside of the truck. This shop says its not the injectors because it runs good. We all know better... They already changed a few parts that was not the problem and are at a point of confusion. I'm thinking a cracked injector body. Aparently they don't know about this as one of the failures. I'm going to see them this morning.

Does anyone remember the window of vin nimbers for the extended warranty? He doesn't remember seeing the letter or may have accidentally trashed it but I think his truck is covered.

Thanks,
Tommy

Thanks for the numbers stoner. :)

Eric, I just got back from looking at the truck and the oil level was up about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch with the diesel smell. Luckily the oil was still thick and the truck was only driven about 70 miles w/ diluted oil. The odometer had 197670 on it. Talk about cutting it close! Surprisingly for a truck with that many miles the ballance rates were perfect. This shop is not a GM dealer so we will move it to the local dealer ASAP.

this will most likely show just how little I really understand about the injectors in our truck but I didn't realize a truck could have perfect balance rates and have at least one of them dumping fuel into the oil pan

Strange indeed. I'm thinking a slightly cracked injector body may not be enough to throw the ballance rate out of whack but may slowly dilute the oil. Eric should know as he's probably seen all sorts of cases.
