Are the transfer cases the same on gas 5 speeds as the 6.5 td 3500 series? Mines a 96 with a bad transfer case will I need to find one from a deisel or will the 454 and 350 work?

Not 100% on that but I think at least some of the gasser trucks had the same Tcase.

Find the tag on the transfer case, probably something like NVG 241 and match it up with the replacement. You will need to stay with a replacement from a truck with the same type of transmission to get the propper input shaft. Most HD 8600# gvw trucks should have what you need.

All the 2500's have the same transfer case (241), but the 3500's have a Borgwarner transfer case (IIRC 1370 or something like that). I can look later on my 97 K3500 and see if the tag says thr model #. The 3500's have a PTO opening on the transfer case where the 2500's transfer cases don't.

There are some electric ie push a button transfer cases too, and I don't know anything about them.

I saw that pto stuff on my Tcase when I was getting the 4L80E rebuilt, I'd like to know more about making it work, if anyone has used one to run a pump or something.

Is it 8600gvw k3500's with SRW or 14.4gvw 3500 hd's that have the BW Tcase?

K3500 SRW are 9200 gvw not he 8600 gvw that the 2500's are.

Yes my 97 K3500 SRW CC has the BW t case.

I believe ALL 3500 had the BW T case and most, if not all 2500 and 1500 had the NP241's at least in the later years.

My 98 2500 has the opening for the pto. Do all 2500's have that or are some different?

Is your PTO opening on the trany (I think its there because you have a 5 speed). The automatics don't have a PTO till you get the Allison. The K3500's BW transfer case has the PTO in it not in the trany.

Oops, yeah, mine is in the tranny

Transfer case is the one with the pto. The tag is long gone. Bought the truck used and someone has obviously been in the tranny and case. Silicone oozing out were gaskets were.

Mine is not engaging in gear all the time and when it does if you change directions it loses all power. You can hear it jumping. Sometimes loses as you go up the gears too.
What is likely to be the problem and what would it cost to go through the one I have and rebuild it?:Nothing_f
