Hi,

Just found and joined your forum - great forum. I've just bought my first diesel (1990 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4) and so far I love it. Problem is I just developed a bad leak of raw fuel. Did a little checking and found out that the water in fuel (WIF) sensor probe is broken off where it goes into the fuel filter (totally stock/OEM setup yet). Without this probe, the fuel is leaking out between the fuel filter base and the fuel filter. I have contacted every junk yard I can find, searched the internet for hours, searched Ebay and contacted several GM dealers in the area, but cannot find a replacement WIF sensor or a complete fuel filter base with the WIF sensor in it (like maybe a used one). Does anyone know where I can find the WIF sensor or a complete used or new fuel filter base with the WIF sensor? I'd like to just bolt in a different WIF sensor and be done, but if they are not available anywhere, then I'll have to replace the entire filter system with aftermarket (Racor). Thanks in advance for any help offered.

These filters are a stanadyne product. Contact a local fuel injection shop that rebuilds standadyne injection pumps and they should be able to help you out. As a tempory fix, if I rembember right, the sensor goes into one of the o-ring ports on the rear of the filter cartridge, find a suitable plug to slip into the hole of the filter until you can find a replacement sensor. If you could post a picture of the sensor, I could look and see if I have a spare.;)

I'll take a couple pictures tomorrow and post. I do need to use my truck tomorrow so I'll take your suggestion and try plugging off the port on the fuel filter to the WIF sensor. Thanks for the help.

Here's some photos of the WIF sensor. I had to lower the resolution considerably to get them to fit here. Hope you can see what you need to in the pictures - otherwise I could email you a higher resolution picture if desired. Thanks for your help.
