: factory cd player not working
My factory stereo works but when I put in a cd it makes some noise and then displays ERR and does not play. I really don't want to pay for the dealer to fix it or install an aftermarket unit. It was like this when I bought the truck so I have no idea what caused it. I tried several cds and they all did the same. Any ideas on how to fix it or what may be the problem? maybe it needs to be cleaned?
dmaxalliTech 04-14-2005, 11:16 PM a cleaning may help, but likely will need to be repaired
I know it could be anything but any idea on cost? I like the factory radio but I can get an aftermarket for around $150. Seams like there is never a trip to the dealer that costs less than that.
NorCal 2500HD 04-15-2005, 12:50 AM is it the 6 disc changer? I had that that problem with mine right b4 I put in my system and ended up hacking the deck apart to get my cd's back......there are so many options now for decks that have waaaay more features then a stock deck has and its probably alot cheaper too....
nope - it is the regular plain single in dash player.
TheMonkey 04-15-2005, 08:42 AM throw a message in the wanted section here. i'm sure a few guys have their stock stereo sitting in their garage. ebay too. you should really only have to pay shipping plus maybe 10 bucks.
be aware though, that there is some kind of anti-theft coding (i think)... so it may not be that easy. if you find the stereo... maybe 'ask the techs' what to do about that.
TheMonkey 04-15-2005, 08:56 AM holy crap was i wrong! these trade very liquid and very expensive on ebay. it seems that people (like me) have a strong appreciation for stock.

if these are $120 on ebay.... i think the stealer must be around a million.
Goldneye 04-15-2005, 10:00 AM I see someone else having stereo problems here, Mine stoped working yesterday as well after I filled up with fuel. Checked the radio fuses all good this is the 6 CD head, well left for work this morning and now it works had to reset the clock:confused:
Got Juice? 04-15-2005, 10:09 AM after 3 died in my truck i decided to go aftermarket.
All my old soundoff IASCA stuff is being installed (by me ) as we speak.
Which sucks...my plan was to keep my sound system stock!
Ah well.... new sub box has been built, a bit tight for 12's but otherwise ok.
Door panels to be done.....
0/0 wiring to be installed (amps take 4ga)
Ah well...
Goldneye 04-15-2005, 10:27 AM Got Juce, 3 of yours died I hope it was covered under warrenty. Whate I don't get is after it sat over night it worked this moring. If this keeps up I'll be going after market.

2 were under warranty.
The first one was like the others. ERR message, tried many discs and the player would spit them right back out.
Second unit had both right front and right rear channels die....
I called the dealer on the cost of a new stock unit. Once i recovered from sticker shock, I called up my local stereo shop, and had them set aside a decent deck for me.
Deck install was 1 hour, start to finish with all the new 'plug and play' harnesses available now.
Job Difficulty : 2 Beers.
I already installed my separates last weekend until i finish the Amp well and Sub Box and wiring... so until then i am running on deck power.
But even deck power is an improvement over the factory unit.
The System will be pretty basic.
Soundstream Reference 644 4Channel amp
1&2 Chan running 4 sets of separates 6.5" w ribbon tweeters (non fading F/R setup) 120 rmsx2
3&4 Chan running 2- 12" Orion NT 12 DVC S/P wired as a 4ohm load 320 rms.
I could change the sub wiring and run a 2 ohm mono load, but i really don't want to do overkill this time.
My big amp Soundstream reference 1000SX (1000RMS @ 4 ohms) is staying in the closet for now.
0/0 Cable to be completed next week. Mounts for AMP and Stiffening cap are done.
Sub box still needs paint and fill.
Should be sufficient:ro)
Goldneye 04-15-2005, 11:38 AM Got Juce, I'm no stereo guru, but it sounds like a nice system, crap sometimes I'll drive into work and not even turn on the radio and it's 37mi to work. I do like my solitude, (no yelling kids)
BansheeBruce 04-15-2005, 11:47 AM Try unplugging the fuse to reset it, this has worked for some others.

Amen to the soliture.. sometimes the truck is the only place some get that!
Every time i go home.... it is so peaceful.

It makes me appreciate where i live when i go to a city. I get all the traffic, and crowds I can handle in the week or so i go to visit.
Funny thing is, I was always a 'city kid' until I was 12 years old and my parents moved me out to the 'middle of nowhere'. I thought I hated it... especially in my teenage years. Time does strange things to one's perceptions... my parents kept getting smarter as the years rolled by, and the desire to 'get out' of town finally made me move.
Ain't life grand>?:D

That's whate I did is pull the fuses, but after I did, I did not try the radio after that, so maybe that did work for me.
