Hey guys.
Just wanted to first say hello. Also wanted to say right off that I'm about as dumb as a box of rocks when it comes to a diesel engine. I bought my first diesel about 8 months ago and absolutely love it, a '98 Chevy K2500 HD ext cab LB 4x4 in pewter w/tan interior. I've been doing a lot of reading lately and have found this forum's to be the best as far as informative and everybody acting civil toward one another (just like the bass fishing forum's that I've been on for years now). Me being a die hard Chevy guy (especially the 90's body style) the 6.5 Turbo Diesel has always been an option for me since the biggest thing I tow is a 20' bass boat. I've always wanted a diesel, something about the sound while idling and the smell of diesel fumes, :D .

I've got a few other questions too, but I'm only gonna ask them one at a time. So the first one is the one that drives me and my wife crazy.

From time to time the engine surges when you are sitting still (like in a parking lot or drive through) with your foot holding the brake down. It's not an every time occurance. But from time to time it will do it, and it will be so hard and sudden that you can feel the truck try and launch forward. Is this normal or is something getting fowled and it just need cleaning out??? It didn't do this when I bought the truck 8 months ago when it had 70,000 miles on it and now it's got 90,000 miles.

Thanks and Take Care.

You have a restriction in the fuel filter housing.

Open the waterdrain T off the filter(up by the alternator) with the engine idleing or engine off but with the lift pump relay jumped to power the LP. It should put out the crap the filter has seperated off, but very likely it will flow nothing, indicating the blockage. With the drain T still open, remove the fuel line into the IP and blow compressed air (gently, as the pressure will repture an old fuel line and spray you with diesel fuel) You should put an old motor oil bottle to catch the fuel as it comes out, so you can see the crap you dislodged. Now, you have to prime and bleed the filter housing or it will draw air into the IP when it starts and stallout. Jump the LP relay and let it pump till fuel reaches the drain T and the line for the IP, then reattach the line in to the IP and open the air bleed ontop of the filter and pump till air bubbles stop comming. Putting a fresh fuel fitler may help too but I'd do this first and evaluate how well it runs afterwards.

Thanks QM !

I went by NAPA and got a NAPA Gold Fuel Filter. Hopefully I'll get it changed out this week. I think I'm gonna leave that engine cover off. It looks to me like it would be a cosmetic thing that only traps heat. Besides, I plan on in the future adding the PMD/FSD cooler so I'd have to leave it off anyway, right?

Thanks Again and Take Care.
