I have wanted one of these cars since they were brought over to the US in 04 but havent been able to justify the purchase yet. My brother just bought an 05 today, let me test drive it and recomend weather or not to purchase.
Both of us have always had Camaro's and have had a silent competition about who's cars are faster, so I understand his reasoning. I found a couple of cars for him near his price range, one an auto the other a 6 speed manual. The 6 speed was an 06, 24k miles for 18,500. The car was exactly what he thought he wanted for his daily driver but it had several scratches and a couple of large door dings. When he left the lot I walked beside the car and watched the side of it and noticed two dimples in each quarter panel above each rear wheel. My 2000 T/A had similar dents, they were caused by drag strip launches.

The car he purchased largely becuase of my input was an 05 with 21K on the odometer. The car is perfect, but doesnt have a 6 speed manual. I just had a feeling that the other car would have problems and that the 05 was solid. The 06 had one bald rear tire and the other was a off brand that I have never seen before. He really wanted the 06 manuel tranny car but I and his wife pursuaded him to go with the 05 auto transmission car. I think he will be happy with it, anyone ever had an 05 GTO before?

The car is damn fast for being stock. My brother asked that his wife and I go test drive it and told me that the decision was up to us. His wife was pulled over with me in the car getting onto the freeway, she was doing 90 in a 60. She got off with a warning. I saw it as a good omen?

Any how, anyone ever owned a 05 GTO before and did you have any problems with it?

the holden monaro (opps GTO) has a long history and is generally a very good car from every thing I have ever seen about it I would liek to rebadge and body work one to Aussie spec just to be different.

I would love to get a G8 and rebadge and body work it to a Holden Commodore .but thats me.

I bought my wife a 2000 ram air T/A, great engine and transmission but the rest of the car was garbage. The GTO isnt perfect but it a big step forward for Pontiac / GM. The interior is well built with decent materials as well as good body panel gaps. The engine and transmissions are great. The trunk is almost useless and it is a large car for a four seater.

It is what the F bodies should have been in the late 90's and early 2000's, except for the apearence. I can live with bland and haul ass.

if you have any concerns.. i used to own an 06 gto 6 speed modified before i turned it back to stock and traded it in along with my 05 trailblazer....

i started modding it with 700 miles on it.. owned it for about two years.. and traded it in with 14,500 miles on it, lets just say that was a huge money pit that sat... it was enjoyable seeing my heavy cam pass by twin turbo gtos (untill about 110) since i could out rev him... 460 rwhp and 435 rwtq reving to 7300 and stay in my power band.. but as you can tell, it sat a lot in two years...

as far as stock, you will be ok... just join ls2gto.com.. and you'll find alot of info. any other questions feel free to pm me.:D
