: AEM Install in 24 hours, any suggestions/pointers?
RUNNINHORN 04-14-2005, 06:24 PM Just saw that UPS delivered my AEM Brute Force Intake, once i get home tomorrow ill be installing it. Is it fairly straightforward? Any tips/pointers? Just thought id ask here first before jumping in to see if there were any key pieces of advice........thanks
Any intake should be so easy its not funny. Basically take everything apart, and You'll more than likely take the current 'plate' or 'stand' that the stock box is sitting on. Just unplug it and yank somewhat hard to get the stocker off.. then everything else is all plug and play!
HDjeff 04-14-2005, 08:38 PM I have installed the brute force and so far i like the quality and fit/ finish. the install is fairly easy, removal of stock airbox and maf is simple, aem also included the tool to remove the maf with those torx head bolt with the dot. anyways, i heard rattling afterwards i installed while decelerating and at idle, it turns out the mounting nut was a little loose onto the heat shield. make sure those are tight, its a double ended screw thingy with a rubber isolator in the middle, its kinda tough to tighten it because the rubber starts to flex. also after i made sure it was good and tight, i still heard some rattling. i finally figured out what it was. after you remove the stock plate that the airbox sits on, you use 3 bolts to attach the new heatshield. well, there are 2 speed nuts on the fender where the other 2 bolts you removed weren't needed. the rattling was those speed nuts vibrating. it was an easy fix, reinstall those factory bolts and snug them down and no more noise. as for turbo noise, its a little better, most noticable while windows down. no drop in egts like everyone states. dont know if the turbo actually spools faster, i think people hear it sooner than before with the stock components. anyway, set aside 30-45 min and you should have an easy install.
as for looks, much better than stock, i have the polished intake and i think it looks sharp. someday i will get pics online. hope i could help.

thanks for the input guys. So did you get any of that "whistle" everyone talks about when installing the AEM? I heard they sound really good under WOT
HDjeff 04-15-2005, 12:06 PM the whistle is better than stock, but i noticed it the most with windows down, its noticable inside too, you can tell its not the stock airbox.
RUNNINHORN 04-15-2005, 05:57 PM well, i just installed it, drove it down a 150 foot driveway, testing it out hammering it, windows down, radio off and i cant tell any difference between stock and this now.......thought it would atleast make a little noise, but not even that.......glad i didnt pay retail for this..........
