Pulled the rear drums off my 94 today. Got a wheel cylinder leaking. Pressure washed everything. I'm amazed there is so much shoe material left, drums don't look half bad either. Might just replace the wheel cylinders and put the complete job on hold till the end of summer.
Here be some pics.

how long has the cylinder been leaking. shoes look pretty well soaked. even with soaking shoes with brake kleen you wont get all the fluid out of them. you have them open, should go ahead and change the shoes out. what does the other side look like? are the adjusters all gummed up as well.

That's what I decided to do. Got all the parts already, so what the hell. Got 180,000 miles on these, I'll be good for that much and more. Only reason I pulled it apart was the leaking cylinder. Cylinders have 340,000 on them.
Sure wish they put these brakes on the new ones. Damn 06 2500HD needed rotors and pads @ 25,000 miles. That sucks.

Don't mean to hijack or anything, but I have 160000km (100000mi) on my factory brakes, and they all still look in good condition, with good amounts left on the pads... do they normally last this long?

Something seems up if I'm gettin more than 4x the mileage on my brakes, could be driving styles though?

I ahve 192,000 on my factory brakes, I am going to replace them now as they need it, my buddy ran his factory pads and rotors until 197,000 on his 2002 lb7.

No your mileage is normal his was abnormal. When I put new rubber on @ 50K my brakes look new, but I don't live in the rust belt.
