: Retrax vs Pace Edwards roll up cover
dmaxhd 04-14-2005, 04:41 PM I have searched and read about the two covers but I want your opinions on which product is better that they sell today.
I do live in Minnesota and I am wondering which one handles the freezing conditions better.
I am also wondering how long each product stands up over time.
Thanks in advance...
HeavyD 04-14-2005, 05:47 PM Now I have never owned a Pace Edwards, but I have had a Retrax on my truck for about a year now. Overall I am happy with it. It has frozen a few times in the winter, but I do not get into it that often so it was not that big of a deal. I am in SE Michigan, so it was regularly thawing and freezing. We'll see what I think in a couple years, but right now I would get another one.

Max Power 04-14-2005, 05:49 PM In my opinion there is no comparison. The Retrax is a 10 times better product. I've listed a few of the differences in the past. I can dig up the post if you like.
Let me know if you are interested in the Retrax I can get you a price.

hhfco 04-14-2005, 08:24 PM Second on the Retrax. Only had mine a couple weeks but I'm impressed. Simple well thought out design. Virtually nothing to fail, no springs etc. Looks great. Everyone that's seen mine has been impressed. Came well packed and install was a breeze.
Send MaxPower a PM, he hooked me up. Thanks Tony
65Bowtie 04-15-2005, 02:11 PM I bought a retrax from MAX and am really impressed with it.
OCDUNE 04-15-2005, 03:39 PM How much of a problem is heat with a black cover? Is there a difference between the two? They only person I know of with a roll cover had a Pace Edwards. He says everything was scorching hot underneath in the summer.

Max Power 04-15-2005, 03:45 PM It's never been an issue with me. I would thing that retrax would do a pretty good job of insulating the box so it shouldn't warm up too much. What are you concerned about having in your box?
02dmax 04-18-2005, 12:24 PM Dmaxhd,
I too was concerned about the plastic breaking in the cold. On the few occasions where it did freeze up (icestorms, etc.) a couple of wacks with my fist on the top cracked the ice off in pieces and the Retrax is no worse for wear. And speaking of wear you won't get the wear marks in the Retax like you will with the PE when running around partly open.
Max can hook you up. Also be sure to get the new and improved lock cover as I have had more problems with that freezing than the retrax itself.
Have fun,
Michael

Not concerned with things melting, just being able to pick them up. Especially metal objects ie ladders. I just wonder what the temps are under a black lid when the temps are well above triple digits outside and under the sun.

Max Power 04-18-2005, 03:06 PM I honestly don't know the answer but I've never found it to be an issue.

It will get hot as black does. I had a Pace on my 96 and never again...

Hard to say on that one. There is only one day a year where it gets into the triple digits here and that won't be comming around for a while :) Maybe one of the more southern users will chime in here.

luvthesmellofdiesel 04-19-2005, 02:16 PM Have you looked at a Roll-N-Lock cover?
