: Guess I'm not a Photographer: HID @ night
steakman 03-05-2009, 09:03 PM Well..these were taken with a Fuji FinePix @ 10mP. Lamps are projectors from Xenon Depot...HID 4300K from Xtreme HID. Both pics below are of the Low beams HID only...

This one is all-on. Hi Beams are PIAA's, They seem to be quite white in colour..actually like what I see there. As for the Fogs, they are what was in the truck when I bought it...OEM.

All in all, these lamps and bulbs are exceptional. I do plenty of night time driving in moose country...am tempted to go HID in the fogs as well..I do notice that when I throw the all on, there really is not much difference - a lttle better for distance but the HID's seem to wash a lot of the Hi Beam capability out..overall though, quite awesome.! well worth the Dinero's.!!
I highly recommend using Projector lamps...no massive amounts of light flying all over the place and blinding & pissing everyone off..!! These lamps fit extremely well into the OEM spots..only issue is there were no tabs to attach the rubber "gasket" to...so I used Marine GOOP..!! My favourite glue...will fix damn near anything that duct tape or PL 400 wont..!! As for mounting the ballasts and ignitors..there is space albeit not much. I ended up putting mine on either side of the outer braketing for the coolers..worked for me and they do not get in the way of anything...
...and the Good Lord said "Let There BE Light" ... so Moses the head electrician flicked the switch and By Christ you could see for ******ing Miles..!!

4300k is the Brightest, 10k is just annoying.
All you really bought is some REALLY expensive Halogen Bulbs, because they aren't much Brighter.
coldLBZ 03-05-2009, 09:37 PM Looks great steak. I have been debating projectors, glad they are working for ya.

hids arent tht expensive i bought my set for the lows at 70 bucks and the fog for 70 bucks which is way cheapier then projectors and then hids price too

OK kiddo :blahblah:
10K are NOT brighter. You probably arent blinding anyone unless they are looking at your lights thru binoculars. ;)
steakman 03-05-2009, 10:38 PM yea...did my research..read mad maxx and gitsome posts...lotsa posts. And the investment was worth every penny. I guess in Tx there aint much bigger critters than overgrown rats n mice n coyotes...so 10k aught to do it there. up here, well 1400lbs of 12' tall moose is something I want to see..before i hit it...gives me some extra time to duck..LOL
Hey cold..long time no seeum..! N Ontario just like Alberta...lotsa rednecks (read Normal People)..love it here for now.
cheers,
stk
bobdel01 03-06-2009, 12:33 AM don't the 10ks put out less light? what you are comparing are the bulb temperatures which relate into light color output, not the amount of light which is measured in lumen s...right?
liftlawssuck 03-06-2009, 07:49 AM they go fAR IT JUST DEPENDS HOW U ADJUST UR LIGHTS

Yea right into people's eyes
Looks good Steakman, I have my HID's on the kitchen counter just waiting for it to warm up a little here so I can install. I can't wait to fire up the all-on w HID!!
ColbyColorado04 03-06-2009, 05:33 PM Im running 4300k's in both my lows and fogs. I get flashed every time I drive the truck at night. I can actually drive around with just my fogs and they give off just as much light as the factory's did.
And yes. 4300K are MUCH MUCH brighter than 10k's
steakman 03-06-2009, 06:40 PM Yea...I"m kinda wondering if its worth it to put some in my fogs...I do not want to get flashed...the last time it happens to me will be the one time where the federales stop ya and there goes $250 out the window...plus the cost of the HIDs ya put in there..plus the hassle. But it is soooooo very tempting. The total amount of light these things give off is nothing short of incredible.! As I said..I rarely use my hi beams at all now.
hmm I wonder if there is sucha thing as projector fog lamps...?? in the Denali style Projector Main headlamps, you can physically see (from the inside), a glavanized plate that covers from approx "10:30 to 1:30" on the "clock" and cuts off the extra light that would normally shine straight up...the cutoff plate seems to really do the trick in keeping extra ambient light from straying/splashing all over the place with them in the std housings...soooo..??
Max/Git some..do you guys know if projectors are avail for fogs..?? If so who might sell them.? thanx guys.!
Cheers,
Stk
GetSome8.1HD 03-06-2009, 06:52 PM If you have the reflector in your fog lamps you should be ok. Its not like the Silverado's where the housing is alot bigger. I have em in mine and they arent all that bright compared to a newer body style. I will be getting the Z71 Tahoe front end air dam with the round lamps here soon so I'll let ya know how well they do. I would say you would be just fine. You can aim em down if they are bad but I think you wouldnt be blinding anyone.
They do make projector fog lamps but Ive never used any personally. Heres an example http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/03-04-05-06-GMC-SIERRA-HALO-PROJECTOR-FOG-LIGHTS-SET_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2 Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3 a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem 290296886337QQitemZ290296886337QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5 fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
Mad Maxx 03-06-2009, 11:45 PM If you wanna put HID's in your Fogs, and you got a GMC, it'll be like Flood Lights. It'll throw Light in every Direction.
If you have Fogs that take a 9145 Bulb, a 9005 (High Beam Bulb) will fit in that Spot. That will be your best bet.
ColbyColorado04 03-06-2009, 11:50 PM yea make sure you buy the right bulb. I for some reason was thinking.....well actually not thinking. and bought a 9006 for my fog....well that didnt work so well. But nothing a step drill bit couldnt take care of. Perfect fit after that. lol
steakman 03-07-2009, 11:00 AM If you wanna put HID's in your Fogs, and you got a GMC, it'll be like Flood Lights. It'll throw Light in every Direction.
Yea I was kinda worried 'bout that. As for the 9005 bulbs, I did notice that the other day when havin a look - same plug/receptacle. may go with some more PIAA's as they seem to be real good. I also checked out Gitsomes e-bay link..not bad for what I am lookin for..just wont go to that seller. I Absolutely HATE UPS coming into Canada..they RIP people off on brokerage fees..BIG time!!
As for this sellers comment that these lamps "cannot be shipped USPS" .. is in my mind BullShit.. plain and simple..and leads to me to wonder what the kickbacks are that are being offered for using UPS instead of USPS. I refuse to buy from Any US sellers that state this on their auctions/websites.
Anyway, thats my Sat. morning rant and not really relevant to discussion at hand. I am glad to see that projectors for fogs are available and I just may well go that route. I'll come back to this thread when I find some...!
Cheers and have a good weekend y'all!!

steakman 12-24-2011, 01:38 AM Fast forward almost 2 1/2 yrs.
The aftermarket Projectors have stood up well in that they have done the job...but now the polycarbonate fronts are dulling & a couple of the LED's have died. I never did add the HID's to the fogs due to doubling the number of fogs due to a dumb accident I had..rear ended a cab at a Tee intersection 2 yrs ago which eventually ended up with me getting an Alien Patrol Front bumper - which i think is totally kewl. and I aint seern another one like it....also kewl
I am however really thinking that Denali OEM projectors would be the ticket. Found a few online but the wreckers sure want an arm and a leg for them..$ 230 ea.!! Not sure if thats reasonable or not..just seems a tad steep to me for used lamps.? But they are Denali projectors...just the ticket.
