: ECM Calibration Update ???
Q101ATFD 03-05-2009, 07:17 PM Looking for somebody who knows their way around a Tech II and hopefully works at a dealer too...
I came across a calibration part number for a GM ECM update. I know it's compatible with my truck and engine package, but the tech at the dealer wasn't able to wrap his head around it - and I don't think he explained it right when he called GM on the phone to ask.
Is there an easy way to walk my dealer through downloading a specific calibration to the Tech II and then to my truck?

Touche;), but in their defense, it's not an tech bulletin update. The Tech II to computer interface the guy showed me today looked pretty KISS. I'm guessing that not everybody knows where to look for an optional ECM flash...
heymccall 03-05-2009, 08:58 PM And what flash is that???? For a couple of mine, I'd like to have lower horsepower and MORE torque management. They're going from steady drivers to general fleet usage.

All he has to do is to hook up, enter service programming, enter the vehicle inf, then go to Computer, download updates, back out to truck, and load. There's nothing selective custom, optional, or special available, but there is a new OS and it's doubtful that you have it.

What exactly is it that you are driving? helps to fill out your sig
rgullett83 03-05-2009, 10:27 PM yah where are you located also?
Q101ATFD 03-05-2009, 10:56 PM 2006 2500HD ECSB LBZ, in Southwest Ohio.
rgullett83 03-05-2009, 11:01 PM Any mods on the truck? I am in Southeastern Illinois, roughly 4 hrs from Dayton(used to drive there to the GM training center) and I own a Tech 2 and Candi module and have acess to TIS2Web.
northbc 12-03-2010, 05:41 PM Recently had my 07 LBZ 2500 in for routine fuel filter and replace the egr motor a second time. Service ticket showed "New software available, reprogrammed ECM 11DC6". I'd thankfully appreciate some input as to what this update was for and what it was intended to correct.
My truck has been nothing less than what could be expected from GM dependability-wise and to date has been the best I've ever owned.
This truck is 100% stock. No programmer, lift, over-sized tires, etc.
Hopefully it addresses winter time fuel consumption which is noticeable when cold.

Most likely it was for the glow plug controller calibration.
The winter fuel consumption increase is from the fuel itself. There is little to no parrafin in winter diesel, which lowers the BTU rating of the fuel. Up to 2 mpg drop is normal.
And isn't "winter time fuel consumption which is noticeable when cold" kind of redundant?
northbc 12-03-2010, 07:58 PM Thank you for the reply. Glow plugs are kind of redundant when living in the Phoenix, AZ area. There are no winter ULSD blends sold here. When cold in the mornings, I may or may not get a glow plug indicator. usually has to be below 45 degrees.
I do however notice more smell to exhaust when warming to operating temp in the mornings.

Don't be fooled by the Glow Plug lamp not being on at startup. Your diesel still uses glow plugs when starting. IIRC, the block temperature has to be above 90F for them to not cycle at all. In addition to starting characteristics, glow plugs also aid in reducing emissions when cold starting.
markaug 12-05-2010, 01:21 AM Don't know what update you received but the 11DC6 is the warranty claim code.
