I know there is information scattered about, but I would like to get an idea of what kind of mpg's you guys are getting when going to different tire sizes.

You problem is probably not related to mine but in NE Ohio we see fuel economy drop in late October/ early November due to the addition of winter additives into diesel we have 34 trucks ranging from duramaxes, power strokes, Detroits and many larger Cummins every truck loses MPG but the Duramaxes and power strokes usually drop 3-4MPG in the city

In 50k i saw 20 mpg avg with 245's
In 39k i saw 22 mpg avg with 285's
In 36k i saw 20 mpg avg with 295's
Current tires are 60% worn thinking about doing 255/85/16 next time

When i did the 285's i also did the edge and the straight pipe

Thanks for the info coming in. I am looking for about an 02 LB7 4x4 and like everyone else cannot stand the 245 tires they come with.

Is that with the correction for the bigger tires?

I get 20 - 21 MPG all day long going 70 MPH w/ 305-70R-16 on stock rims. For my last 58,000 miles my average says 22 MPG w/mixed city 60% and highway 40% driving. 60% of the highway driving is in stop and go traffic. So don't worry, tires won't kill your mileage, it's your right foot. I set the cruise once at 55 MPH on one trip, and got an average of 29.8 MPG for 300 miles, man was that hard though. Your mileage is based on your driving habits, its that simple.

Like I said, it was hard to go that slow. Just did it to see the mileage numbers. Not too many people drive slow in the auto capital of the world, the highway's are race tracks around here.

i was around minneapolis for a few months. might be because they are green everything around there. I had trouble figuring out what bins to put my separate pieces of trash in.

Well, not only does it depend on tire size it depends on the tire and how aggressive it is. Like a BFG mud compared to a more agressive Swamper like SSR, the SSR will yeild worse MPG in the same size. I have 305 SSRs with mods and 50/50 i get 14mpg.

Are you guys kidding me? The best i have ever seen is 18 mpg with my truck. 285 BFG AT. Fuel filter is always changed. I'll be taking a 2000 mile round trip to Galveston Texas in bout a week, i'll get a good estimate then

With my 315's going 70mph down the highway sitting right at 8,000 lbs on the scale I can get 25mpg if I don't get on it too much.

I wish I could get that kind of mileage. This winter I have been running 265/75/16 nitto terra grapplers on stock rims to save my 20's. I always use power service and even with a fresh filter the very best I could muster was 15 mpg. highway, hand calculated, and I was really trying too. On average I get 13.5 mpg. or so. Maybe Its b/c of my truck being higher, with the greater wind resistance and the winter fuel blend.

I get about 16 mpg on average (mix of highway and city) with 285's on winter fuel. Summer I get 17 to 18 if I'm trying on the 285's.

Just filled yesterday. 18.8 on that tank. We had a week with the temps up around 40F and that really helps (it was COLD before and that kills mpgs)

Truck since new has gotten an overall average of 17.716 mpg with a fair amount of towing, but mostly running empty and mostly running out of town. Vehicle mph overall average is 40.2.

I run 285/75/16's and it all depends on the speed. At 65 it gets 20-22 at 75 it gets 18-19 at 85 its drops to 16 or so. some of the responses seem awfully high at 25. I can't get that even if I drive 55 on a dead flat road with no wind.

I have the juice with attitude.

Dunno about damages, but if your talking about having fun go to Port Aransas or South padre.

I get the same with 285's on my LBZ's. Not sure what duramaxxen was hand calculating if he didn't account for the tires? They are about 20% off which at 23mpg would make it over 27mpg:cool: People have to take everything on forums with the knowledge that 50% of what is said is 100% BS;)

Not to mention most use the DIC and dont hand calculate. With the edge and tires my DIC allways reads 2-4 mpg high versus hand calculating and correcting for tire size.

I did manage 24MPG on occasion but it was on a 70 mile stretch of road from Tahoe (6200 feet elevation) to Roseville (Sea Level). As soon as I stopped going down hill, the regular MPG numbers applied.

I get 19-20 on the stock 245. I might get higher if i could find a flat road for more then a mile or 2. Always seem to have to go up hill.

I get 20 on the highway empty at 65 on 265s - lost about 1-2 MPG when I moved up from the stcok 245s.

New tire height divided by old tire height. Take that and multiply it with the miles traveled. That gives you the actual distance traveled.

The 245/75/16's are 30.5" tall.

For my truck with 255/85-16 M55's which are 33.3 inches tall, it looks like this. Let's say I go 400 miles on the odometer and fill up with 20.0 gal of diesel.

33.3 / 30.5 = 1.0918.

1.0918 * 400 = 436.7 miles

So the uncorrected mpg would be 400/20 or 20 mpg. The Corrected mpg would be 436.7 miles / 20 gallons or 21.8 mpg.

Box stock truck on the 245s I set the cruise control on 75 in Evanston WY and ran to Las Vegas and got 26.8mpg
Over the course of the whole trip, down, back, running around out in the desert and in town, 25.6 mpg.

When I had the 265s on it seemed like the best I could get was 23mpg.

Getting ready for my 4th set of tires. Have 55k on the truck right now. First set was the stock 245s. For the first 30k I kept a religious log of my fuel consumption, but stopped somewhere along the way as it was too depressing. heh. :p:

245s - stock -mixed average was around 17mpg
265s - Wildcat TXR - mixed average of about 15.5mpg
265s - BFG AT KO - mixed average of about 15mpg

Now, I have got as high as 18 on the 265s, but only on long trips. I always hand calculate, though the DIC is pretty close (my last tank averaged 15.16 mpg, and the DIC reported 14.5).

Truck is bone stock performance and height wise (other than a few cranks of the t-bars).

I'm getting 13-14 in the city and 18-22 on the interstate. Interstate mileage varies a a lot depending on how fast you are going. All of these #'s are with 35's and 8" lift.

Well, I should probably mention that the numbers I listed above are mixed, but probably 80% freeway driving. If I were to go off total short trip driving, I am much closer to 12-13mpg.
