: AFE install
Road Boss 04-13-2005, 05:18 PM I going to install my AFE today but, I have a couple of dumb question first. Do I have to take off that 6.6 turbo plastic thing off and how do I do it? And How do you take out the base to the filter housing with out fawking it up?
LBZ DMAX 04-13-2005, 05:21 PM I'm not sure if you have to remove the 6.6 plastic piece, but if you do, you need a torx 30 bit (I believe) and a flat head screw driver. As far as the filter housing piece, you simply pry it up (it snaps in place). I haven't done any intake upgrades, but have played around there a bit!!:D Hope this helps you!:grd:
bigblackdmax 04-13-2005, 06:45 PM There is supposed to be that little torx bit included and yes it does have to come off. It comes off with the rest of the stock tube.
g.corral 04-13-2005, 06:45 PM road boss, did you get the stage 1 or 2? let me know,just installed mine,02 lb7,stage 2
duramaxdiesel 04-13-2005, 06:56 PM Corral how do you like it? Metal or plastic tube?
Road Boss 04-13-2005, 07:37 PM road boss, did you get the stage 1 or 2? let me know,just installed mine,02 lb7,stage 2 I got the stage 2 02 lb7.
txguppy 04-13-2005, 10:07 PM Didn't yours come with instructions? Just kidding. The plastic housing pops up, there's 5-bolts to remove the platform. Stock tube comes off up to the engine intake inlet. My AFE tube didn't fit my LLY, called AFE and new one is being sent. Note: this is for Stage II.
NWDmax 04-13-2005, 11:13 PM Corral how do you like it? Metal or plastic
tube?
Don't you hate being ignored?
I know I do!
Please answer his question.
duramaxdiesel 04-13-2005, 11:22 PM Lol! I'm use to it. When I want the wifey to ignore me all I gotta do is talk about my Dmax.

Road Boss 04-14-2005, 12:19 PM Ok, I a having trouble getting he tubo on the black rumber inlet. Is there a trick to getting it on there?
Road Boss 04-14-2005, 01:17 PM Censored I got the fawking tube on but, now I can't get the filter on. I think the tube is too long.
bigblackdmax 04-14-2005, 06:14 PM Mine fit really tight too, you just have to bend the rubber back on the filter to get it in there and hope you don't ruin the filter. Good luck.
g.corral 04-14-2005, 07:53 PM roadboss-push the tube all the in, turn it a little-left/right, i put the air-filter in first, then adjust the tube, dont tighten anything,it takes time, once all is in place-then tighten,ya its a pain!! once tube is in position, put on air-filter,remember its already inside the box,..dont forget to remove the bottom plate... need more info????
g.corral 04-14-2005, 08:03 PM duramaxdiesel-i forgot to tell you, i have 'tts', it whistles louder when i put the chip on 80hp and on 120hp watch out!!! the '**********.COM' gives you good info on install, with pictures to help.i would look over it, prior to install....

jbetz 04-15-2005, 07:13 AM I have the stage 2 for the 03 LB7, you can really hear the turbo whistle especially when you turn the Juice up. I actually called AFE when I was installing mine I couldn't get the stupid pipe to fit on the turbo without the maf sensor hitting the box. They told me to push the black reducer all the way on the intake tube so the metal tube actually sticks out of the bottom of reducer. Then put the intake tube to the turbo and slide the reducer over the turbo. Amazingly it worked great. Their customer service was very pleasant to deal with. They actually transfered me to one of their engineers.

Road Boss 04-17-2005, 11:55 AM Well I went on a small 660 mile road trip from Oceanside, Ca to Lake Havasu City, Az to pick up my new H&H Speedloader MX 18' trailer. I really like the in AFE! Throttle response is a lot smoother than before. I can't wait to put a full exhaust system add a programer and see what my truck really can do!
