I understand that in the past there has been a TSB regarding the steering system. I have noticed a little play in the steering wheel and feel a jarring/ hear a slight clunk accasionally while turning. Is this a serious issue or just an annoyance? Is this something that should be fixed and if so is it taken care of by the general or is it out of pocket (I have an 03 with 50k mi.)?

Sounds like an intermediate shaft clunk or some loose parts in the front, check the inner tie rods as they seem to wear the fastest.

I had the same thing with my 03. Dealer replaced the shaft under the TSB and the issue went away. Truck only had 25,000 on it so it was covered anyway. They should replace it for free as they know it is a bad design..Jim

Just had mine done the other day. Also changed out my stabilizer with a Fabco. Unbelievable! Now it's the way it should have been new!
