My heater / AC fan/blower lost all speeds except high. I replaced the fan switch, but still only the high speed work.
Who has any advice on how to remove it and install the new one?
How does that rubber cover over the fan comes off?

Carey- Just went through this myself. My fan was not working unless I kicked it. I still don't have any speeds except med/high and high but the fan works now. The cover mounts above the heater box and required the removal of the pcm and the tray that holds it after removal of the glove box. Once removed I had to unbolt the dash support at the lower part of the dash to get it to flex out enough to get the clearance to remove the fan from the box. There are a set of relays on top of the heater box that control the fan but I was unable to track down the speed loss issues as of now but at least my fan works now. If you track that issue down while working on it post back or PM me. If your fan is working without making odd noises your fan motor is probably OK it only has one connection other than ground so it is probably not at fault. If I had more time to test and track it down I would have but it was getting dark and I had to use the truck for work the next day so once I had the fan in and operational I spent minimal time trying to get the speed issue hashed out. Gud luk!

Ok it works fine, but only on high.
Maybe a relay is bad.

It should be a bad resistor. The voltage runs through different resistors to get different fan speeds. Hi is direct voltage, no problem with fan.:grd:

Thanks I found the resistor and now I just need to get one.

Where are the resistors located?

Where are the resistors located? The resistors are for the 95's and up only from what I see in wiring diagrams (older C/K trucks look like they use more relays). On my 97 the resistor and the high speed relay are in plain view when the glove box is removed. I don't have a clue where on the older trucks, but it maybe in the same basic place.

Well I replace the resistor today and now I have all my fan speeds again.
The new resistor has more coils on one of the wires.
resistor part # 15039098
switch part # 16192099

Does anyone have any info on how the speeds are accomplished on the pre '95s?
