not bad speaker, swapped speaker with passenger door, if thats the case then both front speakers are bad when placed in drivers door. Driver speaker works fine in passenger door.

bad connection at the speaker. Moisture gets into the door and the plastic connector gets very slight corrosion on it that you cant see, but enough to sometimes make the speaker cut out.

check for a broken wire in the door jamb tube, or like he said the connector at the speaker has been known to corroded.

had a chance to pull the door jam tube, door panel and speaker out again, not finding any real issues between the speaker and where the wires go up into the dash by the steering column. Does anyone have a diagram of where the wiring goes?? It has to run to the ignition switch somewhere, but is it before or after the head unit?? Where is the actual door chime, is it behind the head unit or somwheres else in the dash?? I am not so framiliar with the way GM has set these up. Thanks again for all your help.

is this a bose or non-bose truck?

non-bose, this afternoon I removed the door panel again, and most of the dash, pulled head unit and traced wires through all connectors, and PCM, found no bad connections that were visible, granted some of the wireing I could not get to because of the way it is mounted in the dash, and even Jenny Craig can't make me skinny enough to fit in there, without dismantleing the whole truck. There are several connections, cant see any signs of metal erosion, no backed out terminals or bad crimps. I can't see it being a head unit, or PCM or speaker because it does still intermittantly work, but anything is possible.

When I got off work today, the door chime was working, by the time I got home (25mi) the speaker and chime had quit. Had to be from opening and closeing the door. Pulled the door panel, and speaker again, fished speaker wires through door jam tube. Had a wire caught on the inside of the door stretching the wire, insulation looked ok, but no wire left connecting inside, thus why I missed it before, anyway, problem solved, door jam tube was where the issue was! Good call skidoonut! Thanks for your help!
