Getting ready to change my ATF again and have recently heard that the spec is or was Dexron IIIE, I used Mobile 1 the last time and I do think it was Just Dexron III no E ,does anyone know what the E is all about? I alway thought that the early years of the allison only required Dexron III( it is an 2003 truck ) Thanks for any help with this

Don't know about the E, but all Allisons up to '05 use Dextron III, '06's and newer use Dextron VI and can upgrade to TranSynd on any Allison. The Allison will love the switch to TranSynd...

Watch running dex VI in the 06's. GM says to run the 06's on dex VI, but allison didn't update the seals in the 06 trannies to handle dex vi till part way threw the year IIRC I'm sure I'll get corrected if I'm wrong.

Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF (Mercon on the front; "for older GM" in small print on the back) is a good choice for our "older" Allisons. It's what I've been using for the last few years.

Yes, Transynd, TES295 is better, but the M1 ATF is still very good, too.
