Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and somewhat new to diesel trucks. I am in the market for a new truck, have my mind set on a diesel. Figured I would do it right this time around. I currently drive a 2000 Silverado 1500 Extended Cab 4x4 with a 5.3. The truck has 11 inches of lift on 37 inch Toyo M/T's and 22 inch wheels. I have always been a GM guy, had a camaro, and S-10, and this Silverado.

I need a beefier truck, I tend to be rough on vehicles. I have been thru 2 rears and 1 transmission with my Chevy, the truck just hit 100,000 miles; oh not to mention tons of steering parts. I plan on doing a lot with my next purchase as well. I will definitly lift whatever I get next, probably on 37's again. Also plan on doing the DPF delete, tuner and exhaust right away. The truck I have now is street driven with minimal off road use. A couple donuts in a field or in the snow is really the extent to its off road use, the new truck will be the same. As far as towing, don't do much of it, maybe once every 6 months will tow a small dirtbike trailer - nothing heavy.

After lurking for a couple months and reading a million threads I would like to hear some of your opinions if you could. Here are my questions.

Duramax or Cummins?
GM or Dodge?
IFS or SFA?
Allison vs The New Auto?

As of right now I am leaning towards the GMC, because of the Allison and the interior. I really love the sound of the Cummings though, and the SFA is a plus, but I am not sure about the transmission.

I would like this not to turn into a brand war. And I also understand BOTH auto makers are on the verge of failing. Even though in my mind I believe GM will never fail but it is a possibilty.

Thanks for your time reading this novel, and thanks for your opinions.

IMHO, the GM beats Dodge hands down. The Cummins is a great motor, but the DMAX/Ally combo is the best. The ride is great and the interior is very cool. Just make sure you get leather interior. The cloth seats suck. I wish I knew that before I traded off my '04. I had terrible milage on the new LMM, but its getting better. I barely have 9000 miles on mine and I'm coming up on a year in April. I don't like the DPF and would delete it if Colorado didn't have emmissions inspections on diesels. I would look at a good used '07 with the old body style. It has the LMM but not the DPF. You won't believe the difference between diesel and a gas motor. Once you have a diesel, you won't go back...ever. Good luck with your search.
