After getting my new tailgate cables cuz of the recall, I noticed that these new cables stick out the back end of my truck. They stick out in the gap between the tailgate and the tail light.
Anyone else's do this?
Any fix to this? Cuz it looks stupid.

Mine didn't stick out, but it was really difficult to shut the tailgate the first few times after they were put on. Now they have limbered up okay and it shuts like normal. So, maybe yours will limber up and lay back down after a few open/shut cycles.

Can it get twisted forcing it to stick out? Pop the eye end off and make sure it isn't twisted or something if not just switch them and see if that works.

Mine don't stick out but I notice that more tension seems to be on one. I guess that's so they both won't fail at the same time.

My old ones did same exact thing. My new ones don't do it.
I believe once they have done it and have sat there they have started a memory and it probably will not correct itself without twisting them or something like that.

The bolt that attatches them to the tailgate should have a washer under it so that when the bolt is tightened, the cable can still pivot freely. Make sure that the cable will pivot freely, if not loosen the bolt a bit. That will help them lay down where they need to go better. Better solution is some VR straps.....

Also make sure they are on the right side. They have an L and a R on them.

My replacements on my previous 01 stuck-out, too. My 05 ones don't, but there definitely is more tension on one strap than the other.

Get some VR straps and be done with this nonsense.

I noticed the same thing when I had mine replaced. Ive been lifting my tailgate, and "tucking" them in before I shut it and they are starting to loosen up and stay inside more.
Has everyone had this recall done? I have only received a letter awhile back ago syaing wait to hear from us.

Go down to your local dealer and take in the paper work and tell them you want the new cables. I did just that after waiting for about three months for a reply from them that never came.
