so after waking up this morning and finding 2 litres of coolant on the ground infront of my truck:eek:, i have decided to replace the waterpump :( just hpoing its not too much of a pain to do ) is there anything importatn i should know before replacing it, ive done quite a few before mostly on 350's and the 4.3l but never on a 6.5 so i'm just wondering if it will cause me any headaches.

I am not a qualified mechanic.
I just changed mine, removed the top shrowd which gave plenty of room to work. Ended up having to remove all of the brackets, Alt, PS, Vac, and A/C. Biggest problem I had was the long bolts thru the Alt and the PS.
Keep track of where the STUDS go and it will make it a whole lot easier to put it back right the first time.:D I didn't and it took me a couple of removals and reinstalls:(
The Timing Cover comes off with the pump. You then remove the Cover and put it on the back of the new pump.
Hope this helps

what year truck do you have? I recall having to take alot less off of the 95 than the 98 when I did them.

mines a 94, yeah i figured it was going to be alot different than a 350.......... so all the accesories have to be remove in order to pull the timing cover am i correct ??

IIRC, all of the brackets are attached to either the front cover or the pump itself. It may be that you just need to loosen them, but I removed them.
There are more experienced folks here who would know for sure.

I belive I took most every thing off, but I did the whole job in a rage to try and fix the mystery noise that I swore was the power steering pump I had just spend a few days replacing.

Yep, it all has to come off. If you are real lucky it won't break the seal between the alum. timing cover and the block. Had it happen on my 6.2. Got to take it appart a second time.

yeah that would suck having to do it twice :( and having to take the whole timing cover off would be a real pain.

Are you sure the water pump is leaking? Not a hose or radiator?

You may want to upgrade to the 97 Ho water pump. 80 gpm vs. 130gpm. It's a direct swap. Silicone the long bolts. They are in the coolant.

well i finally got the waterpump in :) was a bit of a pain, the friggen bolt on the left hand side of the block holding on the power steering pum bracket was probably the hardest thing other than that it went pretty well, cleaned the timing cover to make sure it would seal well and sliconed all the fittings so hopefully it wont leak for quite some time :)
and yes in hindsight i should have ordred the pump for a 97 but i already had the one ordered for my truck before i read you post there bk95td.
