Well I have been getting less than stellar mileage for some time... I usually run the Edge all the time in Level 5 x 5 and have had no problems... 15,000 miles...

Averaged 12 mpg in all around driving 60% City/ 40% highway 70 mph or less....
I change Oil (Amsoil every 3,500) regardless of what they reccomend and will until 20,000 miles is reached, Just a thign I do...

I have 285 BFG have since day 2 of owning the truck... SO I have calculated that percentage difference in and that will yield about 0.75 mpg improvemnet in mileage...

Upon hearing from other users i decided to run Level 3 and Low Boost fuel on Level 1... I have done thsi for 3 to the brim fill-ups and have filled up as soon as the Low Fuel light comes on.... Average fillup was 23.5-24.5 Gallons...

Tank one - 278.3 mi. Tank 2 - 279.8 mi. and Tank 3 - 300.5 mi....

This is an average of about 12.5 MPG...

I have scanned for codes weekly and decided MY TRUCK SUCKS... No soft codes besides EGR for the exhuast are showing..

ANY IDEAS???

THANKS

Will, I feel your pain, there are a coulple things I see regular with my truck, I can be cruiseing down the interstate running 70 and see on the DIC 16 mpg, which is good, then I pull into a truck stop fuel up, get rollin again and bam no better than 13.5..WTF, I cant believe how it varies. Im almost thinking about trying an intake and see if it helps. I just figure the motor hasnt broke in yet(5000mi) is one factor, but who knows. One thing is for sure if i keep my RPM under like 1900 I sure see a difference.

I personally run Edge on 1x1 and get 320miles to a tank right now and fill up about 22 or 23gallons. that comes out to about 15mpg plus or minus. I have read on here that running on Edge Level 3 with boost on level 1 gives the best mileage. I have yet to try this, but may do so on my next fill up.

I must be a lucky dude. My CCSB D/A got an average of 19mpg during the first 3500 miles of it's life. That's a hand held calculator number using miles driven and fuel added. The truck is and will remain stock. I broke it in as directed and drive to save fuel. I rarely put my foot in it. I use Stanadyne Performance Formula and noticed a small gain at about 1000 miles when I started to use it.

The truck is better on fuel than my Jeep Grand C with the V8. Now if I could just shrink it for parking. It's real easy to rear end someone. Done it once:eek: .

19 on road at 70-75 mph. 15.5 to 16 mpg in town/some road. Stock as she came from assembly plant. Drive it relatively easy.

If I have 245's on, the spedo is accurate, but the DIC is about 2.5 mpg optimistic. With 285's, the speedo is off by 10%, but the DIC is right on the money. It's used, so I can't say what size the computer thinks I have. .02

When not towing I get better MPG everytime while stock with the Banks off. I've tried level 1-4 and stock always gets more. While towing it is a different thing. With a 15K load and in level 3, I usually get 1 MPG better, and that's usually going faster and climbing the hills like crazy.

Empty, I range from 17-20 depending on my foot.

Give it time to break in, I see most of you have very few miles. When I first got my '04 Dodge, I was lucky to get 14mpg empty and 11 towing. Now that I've got 15000 miles on it, it's more like 17.5 empty/14 towing. Just be patient, it'll break in, loosen up a little, and you'll notice better performance and fuel economy.

200 mile freeway trip. Hand calculated using GPS distance and gallons used. 18.97 MPG. Speed was 75 for first 140 miles and 65 for the last 60 miles. See sig for tires and mods. Predator set at 65.

I have 61000 miles and tow 200=300 miles daily and average 12.5 no matter what i do. I run predator on level 1 and vary the edge from 1-3. I keep my foot in it daily. Still beats the heck out of 8-9 on my 99 gasser pulling the same load. Unloaded is a totally different story, but i am only unloaded from shop to home. maybe 10 miles

just filled up and am goign to try Level 3 Low boost 1 on the Edge. I heard/read that it gives the best mileage results. I'll find out. As always, Chevron fuel w/Stanadyne.

I'll let ya know what I get on this tank

As always, Chevron fuel w/Stanadyne.

I'll let ya know what I get on this tankI have always prefered Chevron for my cars, they usually preforms better. Have you tried other fuels in your truck to see if there is a noteable preformance change, or millage change?

What do all of you think of that Chevron Dieselmotive additive for keeping the Fuel and injectors clear? Instead of Standyne for example?

I've run the truck stock, Edge level 1,2,3,4 low boost fueling at every level, and normal driving with my foot in it gives me 14 to 16 mpg hand calculated. I experimented with someone's suggestion about watching EGT's (attitude monitor) and keeping them as low as possible...trying to keep them below 700 on the highway. Could only stand to drive like this for one tankful. Result: 18mpg. I imagine if you drive like grandma you can do even better...no fun!

I used Stanadyne because its one of the two that GM supports and yes I have tried other brand fuels...TExaco/shell, and Exxon.. all of which gave me worse mileage. First tank of Chevron gave me 2 more mpg.

Only get 13.4 on the DIC. Hand calculated a couple of times, and only a .2-.3 difference. This is almost all city driving. I am new to diesels so I have only gone to the texaco that is close to the house. It was always the cheapest until I saw a chevron .04 cheaper a gallon. And since Briano mentioned chevron gets better milage, I will try it. Can't hurt.

We took the truck the back way to Vegas from Palm Springs. I ran her as fast as she could go! I should have been put in jail! 85+ up every hill, 50 miles @95 mph, I did the math twice, 15.2 mpg. Union 76, 400 mile trip.

1st tank with EDGE on 1 x 2. Finished tank and odometer was sitting on 2200 miles. 3 mpg increase to 17mpg. I noticed a good amout of power increase as well as better throttle response over stock. Most of the miles are highway, about 70mph. The EDGE rocks and the mileage is coming around. I hope to see a bit more mileage as she wears in.

I got hand calculated 18.5 with the wife driving on highway, I usually get around 18 hwy. I have installed the predator and the DIC is obviously off, but will keep posted. The common theme here is around 1900-2100 RPM for best results. Have seen glimpses close to 20mpg keeping it around there.

comin back from palm springs to so oregon at 80-85mph on the flats for about 300 miles.

16mpg. Not bad considering the truck is lifted with 36" tires. E/A on 1 and pred was 85hp setting.

One thing maybe to consider ,the DIC compute milage on alot of factors ,thus the constant change, if you are in wind/uphill /downhill the milage changes /the average changes . when I am towing the trailer it shows I have 250 miles of range ,I drop the trailer and have 250 then suddenly it learns a new milage and I have 390 ,same down a long hill , the only accurate is Miles VS gallons the DIC is only a ballpark at best and good for averages over long trips , I run in 2 on the edge all the time , I have a CC Dually D/A Edge /banks cat back 245x75 -16
the truck is lowered , I haul a 48 ft 2 car trailer average 22 thou loaded , the truck gets steady 18/19 empty and 11.8 to 12.2 towing , these are real world figures over 37000 miles and 15 months , milage improved dramaticly at 10000 miles and is 2 to 3 miles up towing with edge on VS off .

I was really disappointed with my new pickup as for as performance and mpg, until
recently.

After reading about different modifications, and then making them I am now proud of my new DMAX and I am getting an honest 7 MPG better.

Here is what I did:

1. Installed EGR blocker plate Thanks-KROUTMAN

2. Installed Finger Stick Thanks-FINGERS

3. Removed muffler Thanks-MACS CustomAuto-Crosbyton

4. Installed Edge Juice w/monitor 1.2 Thanks-Darin @Performance-Lubbock

5. Installed Cold Air AFE air filter Thanks-Darin again.

Everyone that owns a LLY DMAX; should, at the very least BLOCK the EGR and install the stick. If you don't believe me, take your air tube off (it runs from your filter to your turbo) and run a clean rag around the intake (just before entrance to the turbo) and look at all the black soot!

The person responsible for adding the EGR valve to this engine will have to answer to the Man Upstairs someday.

Was approx 14 - 15 hwy.

Now approx 21 - 22 hwy.

This is over flat roads in West Texas. Also, somewhere along the way this kitty
fell out from under my truck. Boy, was it nasty!

Make sure your DIC is accurate I have 1250mi on my 05 and the Dic is showing 15.4 but when I filled up I hand calced it at 17.976. (around town Milage)

I'm Gunna check out the milage mods from LKIETHDMAX!!

on long highway trips unloaded, I always get between 10.5 and 11 liters/100 km. I cannot get under 10 without falling asleep at the wheel from boredom IE drive 90 km/hr.

Around town mileage drops to between 15 and 20 liters / 100 km.

I typically drive 100 km/hr. And I totally agree with others, keep the rpm down down down. Engine will drink fuel above 2000 rpm.

Conversion to US...I'll leave that to you guys.

I've toyed with ideas on how to get my mileage improved, but it really boils down to fundamental stuff...how light is your truck etc. I have a hard time believing there is a majic bullet out there ... better engine controllers, EGR mods blah blah blah. It's big heavy truck, it gets what it gets.

I for one wish that GMC produced a smaller diesel. Ideally a 5 liter TD, in a 1500 HD or 1500. I really did not need a 3/4 HD, but I really wanted a diesel.

Hey guys, I jsut got my duramax about a weekago and am already impressed with the numbers. With almost 700 miles on the truck my DIC showed between 20.2 and 20.5 in the past 5 days. I did put on a predator and have it set on economy. But this is light years better than my old 6.0 gasser. Mine is the D/A CCSB 4x4. I am impressed and hopes it keeps up...

Hey guys, ..... my DIC showed between 20.2 and 20.5 in the past 5 days. I did put on a predator and have it set on economy.

You need to hand calculate fuel milage when using a power modifier, especially when using the Predator. Many members have reported that the displayed fuel milage is overstated after loading the Predator program.
