Thinking about picking one up and just wanted to see how others like there's. Any major issues or flaws with the product?

No idea man. I have seen toolboxes with build in rolling covers. But most I see around these parts are regular soft covers with a tool box...

Got a Retrax on mine, and love it. You lose a little room up front, but it's worth it for the protection value.

I'll be installing a Roll & Lock here in about 2 weeks when I go home for spring break. Always wanted one of these covers and finally found one. Thinking about getting a giant sticker to throw on it to break it up a little to.

Love mine but with the cold winters & snow it freezes up a lot... or washing the truck in winter then you can't open it. It's still worth it for me but it can be a PITA when it freezes shut and you need in the box.

Thats what I've been reading about these covers. Might have to look into modifying some parts so this doesn't happen...Mostly use the box in the summer anyways. Did you ever try greasing thehell out of it after a wash to see if it would help not stick or anything?

No I apply silicone spray regularly but if you get a bunch of snow on it or if it gets wet and freezes I think your goosed. I try to open it a couple of times after washing but still have had it freeze shut. An alternative is to not install the tailgate track/rail... The cover will still lock on the bedrails but not to the tailgate. That way you can still open the gate but not slide the roll n lock. Haven't done it to mine but seen it. Good luck! They are really nice covers.

I have a full roll bak extra cover with sides I will sell cheap. The paint is flaking off a bit and the company warrantied it and sent me a new one. Can most likely be painted/powdercoated... I like the new one I have, it works great with no problems...

I'm looking for one myself, if you measure it out, a longbed with a tool box is only about 1" shorter than a shortbed...sooo...

I was wondering if you could just leave the tail gate peice off and have it lock all the way. Anyone have pictures of how much this tailgate sticks out since I always have crap going in and out like sleds with studs...

Ya I'd say ditch the tailgate piece. It sticks up about 1/2" and I'd guess sleds would trash it in no time. Mine is about 2 years old though so things may have changed. Good luck!

RollNLock is an OK cover (vinyl laminated aluminum). There is a piece of hardware that must be installed on the tailgate. If the cover's alignment is off, the cover will disengage at the tailgate and come open. I recommend you keep some sort of protectorant on the vinyl, it will fade if you don't.

Edit: The tailgate piece has to stay on there. That's what the cover locks into.

That isn't the case with my roll n lock. If I open the tailgate and pull the roll n lock closed the side latches lock and hold it in place. I can understand your point if the bedrails were too wide it may not catch. But on mine it locks on the sides as well as on the tailgate piece. As long as you keep your tailgate locked and the roll n lock locked you wouldn't be able to get in the bed. This was first brought to my attention on a buddies truck & the install shop didn't put the piece on the tailgate and I saw him open his tailgate with the roll n lock closed... I was like WTH? Then realized what was missing. With the tailgate piece I have to open the roll n lock first before trying to open the tailgate. Cheers!

If the rails get too far apart, the cover gets too much play from side to side which can inadvertently release the cover.

Thanks for the picture OIL99. When I go to install it i'm going to try getting it to work without the tailgate piece...If not worst case I will put the tailgait piece on.

Hey no worries. & like truckdaddy said as long as the rails at the rear of the truck are mounted within spec it'll work fine. I've had my gate open and roll n lock closed when hauling 2x4's and it stayed shut. Good Luck!

Well talked with roll and lock about the cover and there is a bracket that you can get so that you do not need the tail gate piece.

Also question to you guys with the cover. I haven't seen or installed the one I picked up from a member on here and if i install the tailgate piece and close the cover all the way do i need the key to slid the cover open again or will it not lock. Don't have the key for it so don't want to get locked out of the bed of the truck. Let me know guys.

I'd assume no as long as the lock is currently unlocked (which I'd assume it has to be if it was previously on another truck or never been used.) You turn the whole knob that has the key slot to open and close (like 1/4 to 1/2 a turn each way.) If this turns now it's unlocked.

Again in the case of mine it will stay closed & lock with or without the tailgate piece attached. If the tailgate piece is attached, you turn the knob to open the roll n lock then the tailgate can be dropped. Otherwise the roll n lock is attached to the tailgate.

Also once the roll n lock is opened if you leave the knob in the open position it will completely roll up. If you open it a few inches then turn the knob to the closed/locked position then the roll n lock with only roll up 1/4 (it can be stopped at 1/4, 1/2, & 3/4 open if I recall)

Hope that makes some sense...

Cheers!

I was looking at Pace Edwards (I think is who it was). I contacted them with my concerns about getting water inside the drum and having it freeze. They never got back to me:mad:. This is my biggest concern with them due to the climate that I live in.

There are usually drains in there but I think every cover like this will freeze shut every now and then. Doesn't really bother me because the cover is closed for most the winter.

I dont think you'll like it in the winter when it freezes.....make sure you have replacement springs handy

I installed the shortbed version of the retrax on my longbed, I had to do some minor trimming to get it to fit with the toolbox, but nothing major. I love it.
