I have the Z82 package and the tag on the wiring harness states that if you have the TP2 option (aux battery), to not install the 40A B+ fuse. For vehicles without the aux battery, install the fuse. This is my first diesel, but I thought all diesels had a second battery. I did a search on this and someone had mentioned that they heard this does not apply to diesels and to install the fuse anyway. This will be my first tow with the beast this weekend and I can't wait. I just moved up from a 1500 Z-71, so I definitely have some butterflies hearing how good these things tow. I just want to make sure all is well before we head out.

Install the fuse. The dual battery statement applies to non-diesels. I had the same thought when I got mine. Had no power at the harness until the fuse went in.

The fuse feeds power to the trailer charge curcuit.

Mine was the same way with the fuse taped to the harness, but when I went to install it, it was already in.

I have been wondering why my alternator is not charging my trailer battery, just keep forgetting to check it out. Where exactly is the fuse that needs installed??

It goes in the underhood fuse panel. When you open the cover its the top left fuse. It has a cap on it, from the factory, but pull that out and put in the 40a fuse and ready to go.

Thanks mpjman. I dug out the brake harness that came with the truck (I just swapped over the one from my 03 so I didn't use the new one) and found the fuse. Two minutes and I was done. I really wish that I would have discovered this site when I bought the truck a year ago. It is loaded with very handy info.

Hi everyone this is my first post. Ordered the truck from the overseas buyers program in Sept 04 from Iraq to be deleiverd to portland Oregon 14 Apr 05. Got the CC 2500 HD Diesel. Drove to my home state of WA to licence it ($88.00 and no sales tax due to an active duty loophole.) I just got home to Murrieta Ca and instaled a 16k superglide and had the bed Line-Xed. She has about 1700 mi now and I love it. When I instaled the brake controler I used a driect plug to plug harness that I bought with the Prodigy, so I never looked much at the one that came with the truck. After I had wired the 5er plug and tested I noticed no 12v power and was thinking their was a fuse that probably needed instaled some where. Well this awesome site and the wonderfull people on it led me right to where it needed to go. Thank you all.... Now I want all kinds of aftermarket stuff and know where to read abot it.
