Drove several hundred miles yesterday pulling fifth wheel, no apparent problem. Place the trailer in RV campground, turn off Dmax. Hour later went to start truck. Cranked great, took 3 seconds longer to start than usual. Engine started but sounded limpy & weak, died within 5 seconds and has never started again. I should have 15 gallons of fuel remaining in tank, but I put ten more gallons of diesel in, no change. Ran Stanadyne treatment just prior to last 1/2 tank refill. Juice+Attitude: I changed setting from "Tow" to "Stock," no change.

Admission: I am total greenhorn novice. I have a Predator scanner new in the box, have never used; this morning I'll read directions and scan for engine error codes and reset if I find any. I may remove Juice and see if that does anything. From reading other posts here it sounds like I should replace the fuel filter and prime. Can anyone direct me towards a photo on the web-- I don't know  where the fuel filter is or how to change (just screw on, screw off?), how to pump/prime or how to turn a bleed screw. Am I on the right track/ any other suggestions? Can anyone help me before I have truck towed to dealer? Thanks. --wheeler:)

The fuel filter is on the passenger side of your engine compartment. You got your manual? It'll step you through priming. In any case, this thread covers fuel filter replacement & priming: http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1508

Good luck.

Yeah, my first guess would be the filter or bad fuel.

DOH!!!! Remove the Edge first!!! Harness boxes can do what you describe when they malfunction.

I was going to suggest that but thought he said that he already did. Went back and re-read his post and it says he "may remove the Edge". Good call Kennedy.

hey Everyone-- thanks for all the help. Live and learn. I have been traveling to show up for a scheduled service appointment today in Idaho Falls to have the fuel sending unit replaced-- ever since I put in my Supertank fuel tank, the dash fuel gauge has not worked accurately. I have been tracking gallon consumption carefully for a few months without a problem but yesterday I ran out of fuel! Primed the pump this am and truck started right up.

Unfortunately I don't live close enough by Clyde to call him a friend-- but I can tell you he's one great guy. A very experienced diesel mechanic and performance specialist with his own shop in Orange County-- West Coast Diesel Performance, (951) 674-5122. He's been very, very helpful to me. Thanks to everyone who helped! --wheeler:D

I think that this is one of those times when posting a lie would have been more appropriate than giving us the truth......YOU RAN OUT OF FUEL! :duh: :duh: :duh: :duh:

Hey, you got that right!!! Now I'm going to have to change my member name on this Forum AGAIN!!! You'd think I'd learn!!

Glad this forum is here. Despite my ignorance, you have to admit I was "stranded" and now I'm not. Thanks everybody! Cheers! --wheeler

I used to run a fleet of trucks. When any of my drivers called in "out of fuel" I used to tease them that it was a good thing they didn't fly helicopters for a living! I guess the lesson here is to read up on how to prime the system if I run out... LOL.
