I have my predator set on 40. I'm leaving next weekend boise to seattle and will have 13K of trailer. Should I leave the predator on and just not run WOT or not? I don't have an EGT guage yet.

You should be OK. The "poor man's pyro" is the oil pressure gauge. Record what your oil pressure is at a given RPM cruising, and when you go up hills, if it drops more than 10PSI, you should probably back it down.

I pretty much always run at the same pressure except when idling. Anyone know why the oil pressure would drop with high egt? Does the oil thin if passing through too hot of passages?

I don't know for sure why the oil pressure drops when you are running the engine hard. My guess is the oil thins a bit as it cools the turbo bearings. Not sure if the LB7's do the same.

See this thread. At least one other person has seen it too:

Did you see the pressure gradually drop off down to -10psi or did it pop down? I read the other thread and I wasn't clear if there was an LB7 to verify this.

Look at Sdaver's post on the bottom. Pressure reduces gradually under heavy load as you work it hard. This is true for all kinds of vehicles, not just our trucks. If oil pressure drop under high output worries you, you'll need to switch to electric vehicles. ;) Road racers look at their oil temperature gauge to tell when the engine is reaching it's limit of output. We don't have an oil temp gauge.

I did not know the pressure drops. It is good to have some kind of indicator other than a melt down. I read sdaver's post and it is good to see the lb7 does it too.

I would have rushed a guage here but got to the point I didn't want to have something go wrong the day before we're supposed to leave.
