Anyone ever heard of putting there used motor oil back into there fuel tank when they fill up? I have a friend that was telling me this and i never known of anyone but him doing this. He told me he has been doing this on his (7.3 PS) truck since it was new. Also he did it on his tandem dump truck that he ran everyday. I was just wondering if anyone has done this or what are the pros and cons.

I know Ryder trucks do this but they run it through a filter set-up first and it's on big trucks.
We put all our used oil in drums so my brother-in-law can put them in his waste oil furnace.
Dmax NOOOOOOOOO way.

We filter it and dump it in the tanks of our big trucks, NEVER IN OUR SERVICE PICKUP DIESELS, the injectors can't handle it.

I've heard that's an old trick for not getting caught when running red dye. Anybody know anything about this?

I thought I would pass on an interesting note about off road diesel here.
I went with a friend whom owns a small trucking and excavating company.
(10 or so trucks and 6 or 8 pieces of heavy equipment)
I was filling the dozer with fuel from his 1000 gallon site tank he has on a trailer, the fuel is NOT dyed red. He told me that at that paticular location where he buys his fuel it has never been dyed red, and he has purchased fuel from them for ten plus years? The other two commercial fuel stations he buys at are dyed red?
Anyone know if they check fuel stations for proper fuel dye in off road listed fuels, I don't know how they could get away with that?

We get fuel every once and a wile that isn't dyed at work. When I was a kid IIRC, we just about never got dyed fuel on the farm.

I was at a friends house this past weekend, he had 2 co-workers that came over, we were talking about performance upgrades and so on about my 2005 D/A, they are all big rig drivers, the 2 co-workers suggested I add transmission fluid or power steering fluid with my diesel fuel, they say it'll kick @$$... anyone ever hear of this???

I've heard of it in yesteryears diesel but in todays high pressure common rail system such as your Duramax ,I wouldn't.Use a good quality additive designed to lubricate and raise cetane rating and you can rest assure you are causing no harm to your expensive fuel system with heavy oil.

putting any fluid of that viscosity in your fuel system would definately be the death of those injectors.
as far as the off road fuel, that **** never gets out of your system once the die is in there. We have a diesel powered compressor that normally runs on off road diesel, and for about a month all we had was pump grade diesel that wasn't dyed, after about 1500 gallons of fuel going through the engine we dipped the tank for the hell of it, and that fuel was still blood red. And anymore the price of off road fuel isn't too much cheaper than pump grade. And that fine really blows!
