Ok guys,
I have a 2005 Silverado 2500hd and am wanting to replace the junk stock cd player/radio since it dont work. I was wondering who makes an after market radio that would just fit right in place of the stock one and look like it came from the factory except with a better radio and cd player of course! Thanks Kyle

GMC....
Seriously, you will need an adapter harness and a double DIN head unit. Very few meet my criteria for appearance and functionality. I hate little buttons and layered menus.
Even if you don't buy from Crutchfield, start there and see what they have in a double din.

double din is the size of your stock radio, single din is half that and splits the difference in the slot

Ok, cructchfield is a good source, but the only problem I Have is that for example on the Pioneer Z3, they claim it wont fit, well it will fit (the unit is just a little long), but you have to do some trimming inside on the back wall under the dash.
Other concerns is if you have onstar, door chimes, etc. The adapter they sell doesn't work with an amplified system, but I think you circumvent this by adding a seperate speaker to gmlan01 adapter, or go with a PAC adapter.

I put a Pioneer avic f700bt in my truck last November. Love it! it has flash memory navigation (no maps on cd) a cd player, an SD slot and a usb. It is sirius and xm ready although you need an extra unit hidden under seat or dash for sat. radio and blue tooth for hand free cell phone. I think this unit is great. Does not have dvd player but that is an extra $250 for the next better head unit that has dvd. I put movies on usb (I have 10 full length movies on an 8 gig usb flash drive) and they play great. no skipping or lock up at all.

Ok, I would like a double din (size of stock radio), my truck is a 2005 the LS model so no on star. So I shouldnt have any problems with installing the radio in the link correct, since i dont have any of the bells and whistles

You shoudln't have a problem. Just watch buying the adapters, some stereo shops will rape you over the price of adapters and mounting brackets. Although crutchfield isn't the cheapest place, at least it is a safe place to buy from.
Also, you might check newegg.com for head units, weird that a computer store sells them, but they do. They have the Pioneer Z3 for $1300, crutchfield I think is $1900 for the same radio. They actually have a few to choose from as well. There return policy sucks to get your money back, but any issues with a radio, and they are pretty good about RMA (as long as it is in their rules) to replace it.

you just have to get a trim kit, wiring harness, and a module(like scosche gm2000) to keep the door chimes and warning chimes if you want them
