I have just put about 150 miles on my 'new to me' 1996 C2500 6.5 2wd. I love it! Just passed emissions with flying colors. My only question at this point is, sometimes when I shut the truck off, it feels like the engine jumps a little bit. Not always, but often enough. The only thing I can compare it to, is years ago I had something with a bad motor mount that felt similar. Any ideas what I should check (other than mounts which I will look at)? Thanks for any tips. take a look at your crank pulley. When the rubber goes bad they can clunk when the truck is shut off. I would just replace it and while your there replace the harmonic balancer on the crankshaft as well. the HB is recommended for change out every ~100,000 miles.

I am waiting for a manual, so I don't have one to look at yet. What's the basic outline of replacing the pulley and balancer? Does the radiator need to come out? Is a visual inspection enough to tell if these components are bad? Fortunately I have a great set of pullers to choose from. Thanks. Hal

And here's the good part... when that pulley goes all-the-way bad, it can snap your crank.
This isn't a maybe-i'll-fix-it tihng... check the pulley and if the rubber is delaminating or if the pulley moves where it isn't supposed to, change it NOW. Change the harmonic balancer at the same time, as Dave said.
I still don't do tech, but this one isn't a game...

Well, I got the balancer, and the engine pulley and the seal. It was below freezing, and I had to do the job in my driveway. A few days before, I put a couple of paint pen lines on the balancer to see if it was moving. When I got the fan shroud off, and the pulley, I found a lot of cracks in the rubber in the pulley. The HB looked pretty good. The paint lines didn't show any movement between the inner and outer rings. So, I just replaced the pulley, and will wait until it is at least 50 degrees out, and then I will replace the balancer and seal. It really is not a hard job on a 2wd truck. Now the truck feels a lot smoother, and no clunk on shutting off. Thanks for the all of the tips. When it is warmer and I do the balancer, I will take photos to post. I like this truck! If only it was 4wd! But I still like it. I just need another, that's all....or a Suburban. A Suburban is probably better so I can load the family in it. Regards, Hal
