: bad fuel milage?
Nick_Johnson 04-11-2005, 10:33 PM my 01 with allison is getting 13 miles to a gallen. it dosnt matter if im on the high way or short distance, driven hard or babied i still get 13. i have 305 wrangler AT but the guy who owned it before me SAID he got from 17-23mpg. I put a new fuel filter in it and the air filter looks brand new. whats the deal? everyone i ask said they get at least 15 and he had a dually and drove it like he stole it. is it just me or what?
ps. i had my spedometer recaculated for the tires it im sure it is right if that says anything.
9W3-HD 04-11-2005, 10:35 PM that does seem low for an LB7, especially if you drive it easy.
Duratys 04-11-2005, 10:45 PM That is really low
I can run 75mph and still get 19-21mpg
How long have you had the truck?
wickll 04-11-2005, 11:17 PM I also get around 13 - 14 mpg. My truck is an 01 4X4 short bed extended cab. Most of my driving is about a 6 mile trip one way and then maybe some in town driving. I also attribute the low mpg to that and being 4x4. But I have gotten 17.5 mpg on a fairly long trip (400 miles) with a lot of long open road.
Kurt W. 04-11-2005, 11:33 PM Mine sucks too! Its anywhere from 13.5 to 14.5 and its babied. But I drive short distances though.
Kirby 04-11-2005, 11:40 PM Price of fuel in Ca. slowed me down to driving around 60 to 65 mph and I squeezed out 21.5 mpg last weekend on a trip to SF Bay Area.
2001 extended cab short bed 4x4.
That was the best I have ever gotten.
Duratys 04-11-2005, 11:40 PM Have you guys with bad mileage ever done any heavy towing when the truck was relativley new? I did with mine..............mabey thats the diference?
I dunno
Grey Ghost 04-11-2005, 11:46 PM I was getting 13-14 with mine until I put on the Juice and 4" exhaust. Now it's down to 12-12.5, but I think it is mainly right-foot related:D .
Oh, and I have 99,000 miles.

RedRiceEater 04-12-2005, 12:32 AM It seems like short trips are what kill my milage. If I hit the interstate I get 20ish. In town I probably get 12 or so. But its really stop and go around here. Stop light... go... look out ricer pulled out in front of me, wait for him to buidl speed so you can go again, stop sign, go... you get the picture. It all evens out to somewhere around 18 mpg, 85-90% of my miles are on the interstate at a constant 75.
60k miles

Did you do to speedometer recalibaration yourself using an after market tuner, or did you have a dealer do it? If you used a dealer the only thing that they did was adjust the ABS brakes to your tire size. I have never heard of a dealer being able to adjust the speedometer with a tech-II.
I question the milage numbers of the guy you purchased the truck from. On my lb7, I can get 21-22 mpg but I'm using a Canadian gallon.
a64pilot 04-12-2005, 12:25 PM Last place I lived it was over 20 miles each way to work and I lived in a rural area so very little stop and go. I regularly got around 500 miles per tank. It's now 4 miles each way to work and I live in a bigger town (more stop light to stop light) and I get around 400 miles per tank. When I got 500 miles to the tank it was around 17mpg. Now it's around 13. I think it's all in the distances I drive. I used to fill up every week, now it's every other week si I guess I'll take it. What options do I have?
Nick_Johnson 04-12-2005, 05:05 PM I had my schools vocational class do it. They use a Snap on handheld tech but not sure of the name. It does have 100,000 miles though. If some of you are also getting this milage im not worried about it but just wanted to make sure there was not something wrong with it. thanks.
mpdlt 04-12-2005, 11:05 PM Nick, I've noticed it seems to go up a bit in the summer. Mine usually improves about 2 mpg once it warms up. It must be those extended warm ups in the winter.
Duratys 04-13-2005, 03:23 AM Winter fuel as well........................................

Victory Red 04-13-2005, 08:01 AM winter fuel, traffic, driving style and a whole lot of other things take a part in economy. For curiousity sake those reporting the low mileage, divide your miles by your hours. My 03 with just over 44,000 on it goes anywhere from 16-21mpg with an occasional 15 in the coldest of winter months. My average speed though is just under 37mph.
