: turbo's
Nick_Johnson 04-11-2005, 10:04 PM How do you reduce turbo lag and increase boost with a stock turbo? Is it possible? I know the powerstroke you can remove a hose and it gives about 4 lbs more. Can u do that w/ the duramax? It is stock now but to get the most performance without tearing up the allison what all should i do and still be safe. I was thinking hypertech programer 60 hoarse gain, K&N air filter, and eventually exaust of some 4" type? Any suggestions and places to buy?? thanks.
2001 Duramax ex cab short bed, Allison 5 sp, 4x4, 305 goodyear wrangle AT's.
noreaster 04-11-2005, 10:37 PM go with banks wastegate actuator, u can adjust the amount of boost before it blows off.
go with a programmer like hypertech or predator. with the 33 your running they can adjust the speedometer. dont waste your time with the 60 tune, go with 90, i have been running the hypertech 90 for 2 years & 0 problems.
you can swiss cheese the factory air box & run a factory filter, supposedly gets the same amount of power.
the 4" exhaust is great for performance & cool sound.
check out the vendors on here.
McRat 04-11-2005, 10:42 PM Biggest boost gains or reduction of lag, will be through tuning. Open up the exhaust flow, and stuff a tune in it and report back.
rolloffhill 04-11-2005, 11:45 PM What are you going to gain with the extra boost, meaning if I put the banks big head on what am I gaining?
ratlover 04-12-2005, 09:43 AM IMO try to start with tuning. Edge and TTS make nice stuff. there are other cheaper options though. Swisscheese your factory box(might not help but it cant hurt) add some exhaust and then reevaluate how happy you are/arnt
Edit: do in order of the lest amount of $$$, I would start with airbox and then do exhaust and then do a programer unless you know you want one anyway.
rolloffhill 04-12-2005, 09:58 AM Check sig, I've got afe and monster exhaust. I an at a stalemate right now and don't know which path to take. I was just wondering what the big head alone would do. Had a salesman at Banks quote me a package of 6gun w/s.loader and big head. Just wondering if the big head was worth the extra 2 bills, and what improvements i will notice.
dieselmaniac 04-12-2005, 02:20 PM The big head will give you more boost. I noticed a good increase of midrange response and few extra pounds of boost.
Nick_Johnson 04-12-2005, 05:16 PM This is what im looking at now, Bora or borla (something) exaust, K&N filter, and hypertech programmer. Will that wake the beast up enough or is that not a good combination?
ratlover 04-12-2005, 05:27 PM I would leave the filter off in your case unless you are going for ultimate perf. Just keep the stock ac delco. Swiss cheese it though since that is a free mod.
All exhaust will do the same power wise IMO. Pick on looks, sound, quality ease of install, price, materials, ect, what ever is important to you
There are probably better programs than the hypertech but it will work and give you power. Its one of the less expensive programers and its ussualy a get what you pay for kinda deal. But if you just going to set it to its lowest level and leave it there then you should be fine with it.
McRat 04-12-2005, 05:29 PM Depends on how "awake" you want it:
One cup of tea - Intake only
Two cups of coffee - Intake, exhaust, mild tuner
Three Red Bulls - Intake, exh, 120HP tune, and trans.
Four methamphetimine tablets - Intake, straight pipe, trans, and TTS Extreme.
I heard the last one can get you in trouble with the law.

.
how much is the banks actuator?
David Schear 05-08-2005, 01:11 AM I believe that Banks has them on their website for $185.00
rolloffhill 05-08-2005, 09:23 AM I got quoted 200 when it was in a package deal with the 6gun w/spd loader. I guess now that I bought my 6 gun here I will find out for sure how much it is.

rolloffhill 05-08-2005, 11:01 AM You have to call and talk to a rep. If you ever get anything from banks let me know. I'll tell you my reps name, maybe I can get a discount!?):h
noreaster 05-08-2005, 12:57 PM some of the vendors on here carry them too
