Hello everyone,

OK, I've searched the threads and failed to find anything on this so here it is:

New batteries, bled fuel system, push button glow plug set-up, repaired starter (Lug from solenoid to field windings loose/burned on the inside of the case) and still no start.

As it cranks over, you will see a small amount of smoke out the intake and nothing from the exhaust. almost like the engine is turning over backwards or the an intake valve is not seating or maybe an exhaust valve is not opening. It acts like it's just about to catch but...:(

I got this thing DOA and have no history on it.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

USMC

You might do a compression check 1st.. harbor frieght has a diesel compression gage for 35bucks. Also make sure the fuel is getting to the injectors. Crank it over with an injector line cracked open and see if youv'e got fuel. Sounds like no fuel to me

try a gas soaked rag in the air cleaner??

im guessing no fuel to injectors....

the motor does have to turn over fast enough.....some cheap staters dont work, they turn over but too slow.

Have you checked the pinkwire on the ip for voltage? you could try a jumper wire from the ip to the battery(listening for a click when you connect it). Id say who ever owned it before burned up the starter trying to get it to run. I'm not sure about the gas soaked rag(might get sucked into the valves). just Don't spend alot of $ till you do a compression ck.

Install a clear hose on the top of injection pump, this is the return line. Check for fuel flowing through the hose when cranking. You should either see fuel or bubbles or both. If you don't see fuel flowing, could be a problem with the fuel solenoid inside the top of the injection pump. If the engine has been sitting for a while, the fuel valve inside of the injection pump could be stuck shut. Remove top of injection pump and check linkage for free movement. If it is sticky, spray with wd 40 to free it up.

That might be OK then... I once forgot and left a rag used to keep me from droping anything in the intake..cranked it over and the rest is history
