I have 50k miles on my LBZ and I am thinking of changing the tranny fluid. A buddy of mine who has the same truck says that you have to drop the pan to change the fluids. However when I look at the tranny it appears to have a drain plug on it.

Does the 2007 Classic Allison have a tranny drain plug on it? If so do I still need to drop the pan?

Sorry for the stupid question.

You are correct you have a drain plug. Do you tow anything heavy? If you do I would go for a full flush using the "Hoot Method" and change over to a Allison TES-295 fluid. Search in the trans section and you will find it. If you drop the fluid using the drain plug you drop about 2 gallons. Including the torque converter you probably have 5 gallons in the whole trans.

You would need to drop the pan to change the internal filter. You certainly could drain the pain with the plug first though. Alot of guys use this as an opportunity to add the allison deep pan and filter
