Alright you SOCAL guys, what kind of speed & EGTs are you seeing on this drive. I have an 05 LLY/All w/ exhaust, intake, & Hypertech on 3. I was at 1200 going 75 mph on the way home--empty. I hope the pyro I had installed last week is the culprit.

I did the drive last weekend, i was at 850 doing 85 in my 05 lly. 1200 seems pretty high for that grade.

that is with exhaust, filter, and j/a level 3, low boost 1

850 @ 85 is about what I expected. The pyro is over 400 at idle. I'm going to try tuning down to # 2. Anyone know if the Hypertech causes higher EGTs than the J/A??

hecu..., there have been a few posts on the Hypertech and higher EGT's, IIRC several on the trailering/towing forum. Glad to see you have EGT gauges to monitor things. JJ :)

I was at 1250 peak (1100-1200 avg) on the return trip with stock airbox, 14,000lb combined weight (car/trailer/tires/tools/fuel/etc), 4" straight pipe at 1:00PM, going 80+ mph.

That's seems way too HOT!!!! I'd try putting back to stock program and see what your egt's are. If its still high i would hope its a bad pryo guage of thermometer

My truck runs about 600-625 at 70mph empty. I run the 6-gun on level 2.

Whenever anyone brings up EGT I always have one question on my mind.

Is that a good indicator?

I say that because depending on your programing, you could actually be sending unburned fuel down the exaust manifold and torwards the turbo. Your highest EGT could possibly be at the turbo or even after the turbo depending on programing.

So a single probe in the exaust manifold might not be a good indicator of whats going on. Some of the hottest programns out there could be cooling down immediatly after the manifold while other cooler programs are still getting hotter after the exaust manifold.

Disclaimer: The above statments have to no factual information to validate them and are soley based on testing I have done with gasoline motors, camshaft timing and carburator jetting. Fuel can burn in the combustion chamber or in the exaust system. Diesel members with 2 EGT probes pre and post probally have a better understanding then me. Also those that do this for a living and can recooperate testing expenses probally have a better understanding as well.

did it yesterday...

Stopped at Baker and fueled up... tripped the 'check engine light' going up the grade, but never saw anything extreme

EGT's around 1200-1300, speeds at 65, towing probably 12,000+

I was headed from SD to LV that day. If you were headed the other direction, it sure looked like a parking lot in a couple of spots. Maybe it's the 35" tires, but my #'s sure seem to suck a#! compared to the rest of you guys.

I seem to run in the higher temps when towing. I have a TTS Tow tune and easily hit 1250 and have had it to 1400 for a second or 3.

What gives?

Got Cat? If so, kill kitty dead. Hide carcass where SPCA won't find it. :D

The numbers I post are cruise control EGT's with a 6000lb trailer. From what people have reported you can go over 1300 in a bone stock truck WOT towing uphill at altitude.

I averaged over 75mph for the return trip, yet just 60 for the first leg. Just under 3 hrs from Vegas to Norco. Yes, there were a couple of slow spots, but it is the first time in my life it took less time to get home than get there.
