: Idle bumps up after starting

I've noticed for awhile now that after I start my truck it sets up at standard idle around 650 and then just after about 15 seconds the idle bumps up to about 850 and stays. That sounds like an indication that the truck is going into regeneration every time I start up. This happens in the morning when I go to work and at night when I go home every single day. Mileage is crappy at around 13.5. Is this thing stuck in regeneration mode?

Does it have the "high idle" option? How cold is it in the morning and at night when you leave? After you've driven it for 5 miles or so, does it drop back to regular idle? Is it stock? Sorry for all the questions, but don't think it would be stuck in regen, unless you've never driven long enough for regen cycle to complete, which I find hard to believe.

It's normal.... if you want you can turn the elevated idle options off.....read your owners manual it lays it for you

Mine does the same thing, only in the mornings or at night when i leave work. It even does it when i had the elevated idle off. I thought it was the elevated idle, but it doesn't shut off when you hit the brakes, the only way it shuts off is to put it in gear. I took it to the dealer, and of course they couldn't get it to do it so they said it was normal and it needs to do that to get the engine up to operating temps. My 05 never did that.

mine does it also. normal idle is 720 and it bumps up to 800 dunno why.

I guess it's nothing to worry about. I'm just always looking to see if I can tell when it goes in and out of regen and I never see the signs. Mileage never seems to change except when I rarely leave town or when I hook up the trailer. I'll just keep watching for signs I guess.

Get out of the truck and walk to the back and put your hand a little ways out from the exaust,if its in regen you will know. Also it only does regen when going over 35mph IIRC?

My truck does the same thing and I don't have a dpf so I don't think that it's in regen.

Elevated idle is more like 1,000 RPM.......

DashHawk readouts approx:

Normal idle / Elevated idle:
RPM 720 / 1,050

Boost .3+ / 3.0+

Load 13 / 30+

EGT 300 / 500

Coolant Temp at 10 mins: 135

Tranny Temp at 10 mins: 135

Factory Water Temp Gage Accuracy:
Factory Coolant Temp gage coming off the 160 mark: 110 on the DashHawk.
Factory Coolant Temp gage at the 185 mark: 150 on the DashHawk.
Factory Coolant Temp gage at the 210 mark: 180-190 on the DashHawk.

So, is this something i should be worried about and take it back to the dealer?
