I'm going to mount my PMD on a custom heat sink. Do I need to use that heat transfer pad or can I just use thermal grease?

I have a temp senser for an old car amp that I'm going to run with the PMD and try mounting it inside above the stock ECM. I will try with just the heat sink and with a cooling fan attached to the heat sink.. Will post with results later..

When I installed my heat sink and PMD from SS diesel they recommended not to use the pad......just a good amount of grease......1 1/2 years later and no problems in 115 degree weather in the summer....knock on wood.

Ditch the pad and use the good stuff from a computer store. Artic silver is the best! I don't think Stanadyne is still working on there thermal pads if they say the best place for the PMD is on the pump....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif

After putting Arctic silver on my Pmd the heat sink gets way warmer than it used to.

I agree.

I went with plain old radio-shack heat sink grease, and have not had any problems since (well not counting having to replace the whole engine, but thats another story)
