Was buzzing around the hills surrounding the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri yesterday and noticed the Ally was running 190 - 195 degrees. This was with nothing in tow and no load in the bed. Air temp was 80 degrees. Fluid level full and filter has about 5,000 miles on it. Seems a little toasty to me. Took about 20 miles on the Interstate to get it cooled backed down to 160. Is a Mike L. cooler in order? I'll be towing an 8K boat/trailer this summer on the same roads in 90 + degree heat.

you are fine with what you have.its not unusual to get up that high running in the hills without t/h on.most of that heat is from torque converter slipping when its not locked up.try running with t/h on and temp will harly move when empty

While I know we'd all like to see a little cooler temps than that, I wouldn't worry that you have anything out of the ordinary going on with your truck. Mine will run at that temp in 80° weather as well, especially while driving in the mountains.

Cool. Thanks, Guys. I'll see how she does towing in warmer weather. Time for some Transynd anyway.

Not trying to upset anyone, but mine started running warm (190 to 200) @65 mph. Well when I changed the spin-on, noticed some sparkles in the oil. Make a long story short, it got worse. Made a trip to Eric in Mi. he installed another tranny in it. Upon draining the fluid there was a lot of metal in it. Turned out a very large bearing behind the tail-shaft was no longer there. Ground to nothing. All I am saying is look at the fluid that drains out very closely. Maybe if you have the same findings as I did you can save it befor it gets destroyed. That $10. dollar part trashed my tranny. Now I work my truck,so I am not complaining as I had 419,000 miles on it. Just check the fluid.

hd90rider,

One day, Old Son, you're gonna have to give us a blow by blow description of that rig of yours and the service it has given you over that mileage span. I'd sure like to hear it from you, down and dirty, if you can ever find the time to tell it. Thanks.

Dont know if i can sit that long!!!:muahaha: I service this truck like clockwork. Post fuel filter from Day 1.change the post every 25k and the OEM every 40k. Amsoil by-pass at 15k. Change it completely at 60k change primary filter every 7500. No injector probs. till 215k then 225k & 240k. Then a new motor at 282k. One Alt @ 319k ,2 idler pulleys a year & 1/2 apart. Have used Amsoil in the tranny and the rear-end since 90k. Orig. brakes now at 432k, orig. front end,no play in it. Tranny went south at 419k. Eric replaced it & he can vouch for the miles & the condition of my truck. Dont really care if anyone believes this or not, but you asked ,so I told. This truck is pulling 70% of the time. Oh yeah also get 125k to 140k out of the Firestone tires, too. Almost all the guys at work that run these tires get over 100k out of them. So, how long befor i get flamed now.

:exactly:  :cool2: :grd:

I can tell you first hand, I drove the truck and was under it. There is NOTHING on that truck to indicate the miles on it other then the odo. Clean as a whistle inside and out other then some normal wear.

_______________

That truck is a War Hoss. I hope to get the same or more from mine, especially with about zero pulling! + 400 k miles on the tranny is remarkable and nothing less than that.

Thanks for taking the time to reply and make this post.

Returning to Missouri from North Carolina, I ran with T/H on the whole trip, ambient temp was low to mid 80's, and my Allison ran 160-190 the whole trip cruising at speeds ranging from 55 to 80. Most of the time it doesn't budge much off the 100* mark.
