Anybody know of adding Cetane Boost Addetives to Duramax engines? I've been a long time Cummins enthusiast but, wife showed me the "Dark (Duramax) Side". Anyways, always used it on my Cummins to lube injection pump. Is there any specific brands the are made for the Duramax? Pro's and con's?

Almost all additives have a Cetane booster in it.I use FPPF booster alone all the time.I'm sure Stranadyne, Primrose (sp?) and I know Amsoil has it too, amongst other brands.

Welcome to Duramax ownership.

Hi--As far as pros and cons--there are know cons--you really should use a fuel additive/cetane boost!! Diesel fuel is becoming dryer and dryer as they clean it up!! This becomes a problem for the entire full system!! I personally use Amsoil Diesel fuel add. and there Cetane boost--I've been using both for 10 years--it puts lubricity into the system to lub the pump--it makes the fuel burn cleaner/better!! It lowers your emissions and improves the economy!!

I run 8 plus cetane boost in addition to the FPPF Total Power that I use. I find that I can tell the difference, especially when I am NOT (if I forget) running it

How about adding a few sips of Bio-Diesel. Won't really add cetane, but will lube it up!

Thankful

I just started using Performance Service Diesel Kleen (summer formula - silver container). It boosts cetane by 3 or 6. Wal-mart sells it. Three quarts is $11.96 and it treats 300 gallons which will be approximately 12 tank fulls. If you want cetane boosted by 6 it will only treat 150 gallons. I'm on my first tank. I can't tell any difference in mileage but the engine is a little quieter. I'll keep using it.
