Krash,

It all depends on how you drive, the wieght, tire size, what kind of driving you do and so on. I would say during the winter(worse mileage) anywhere from 14-20mpg. Any other time of year should be about 1-2mpg better than winter.

I get 18.5 unloaded in the city.

Krash610,

Mileage is speed dependant. 60 to 65 mpg usually yielded 20mpg+. Around 70mph that went to 19mpg. 75mph was 18mpg and 80+mph was barely in the 17's.

I average an honest 20mpg with my Dmax. Depending on my driving I've seen 18-22mpg per tank when empty. Hey captainmal, how about an honest opinion/comparison of that new Dodge you're driving. Edited by: GMCTRUCK

KRASH610 running solo, the first tank I got 17.3 (17.1 DIC), second tank I got 16.1 (16.4 DIC) same pump, 50/50 city highway, running Primrose 409 and a fair amount of idling. Oh, and on the second tank I lost about a gallon doing my post OEM filter install. Much better than my '02 8.1L.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

My 04 had about 800 miles on it when I went home from college last weekend. I got 20.5 mpg, and it would be really neat if that came up as it got broke in. That was all highway averaging about 60-62 mph.

17 - 18 in the city... 8 - 10 towing something substantial.

On a trip from Cleveland, Ohio to Gainesville, Florida, I got a high of 22.77 MPG. This was fuel stop to highway, to fuel stop. No idleing or city driving in between, 65 to 75 MPH. Most tanks were around 19.8 MPG driving 75-80+ MPH!!. I got 18 MPG on a 400 mile tank tooling around the Gainesville area.

GMC Truck,

There is a recent opinion on this site and more on the Dodge/Cummins forum of this site. Also check dieselram.com.

In my Silverado K3500 carrying 1000 pounds my typical load,

I get 15 mpg city and highway @ 70. I get 13 running 90 mph on western highways.

My best is 16.9, driving about 60-65.

Stock tires and wheels.

It seems the dually tires hurt the mileage. I think lighter wheels would help. I'd be interested in seeing what other duramax dually drivers are getting with various tire and wheel combinations.

Completely stock 2002 3500 CCLB truck except for fuel filter and aire filter.

I average 15.5 - 16 MPG per tank. If I drive more highway and stay near the speed limit I have gotten 17+. If I run as fast as I want I get 15. Towing it drops to around 13.

I did a run to San Antonio from Houston, down there I was getting 18.9 with mild wind blowing and on the way back was getting 20.2 with about the same wind. Also had the cruise set at 75 mph both ways and coming back we were loaded with x-mas junk.haha

I don't know if a few of us have gotten magic trucks or what, or if the stars were aligned, because I've gotten a best of 25MPG. On seperate occasions I have gotten 24.3 and 23.7MPG.. with stock tires and just a K&N filter, straight piped exhaust. This is running under 2k RPM's on the freeway (speed limits on that trip were 90 - 100 km/h).

Average I get about 19, half highway half town, I live in a rural area, have a light truck (reg. cab) and a handshaker so I guess that helps it be a bit more efficient too.. Even with big tires on, calculating for tire size I can get 22 when I try.

I've had my '04 for only a month. Bone stock. 2,850 miles, 70% highway, 30% city, no towing. No additives, blended winter fuel. Best tank = 21.4, Worst tank = 19.0, Lifetime average mpg = 19.95.

I've gotten an over-all average of 18.2 mpg in the 28 months that I've been driving my truck. I typically get 18-20 mpg empty in the warm months and 14-16 towing my 6x12x6 enclosed trailer. I've been getting 15-16 mpg empty the last couple of months on "winterized fuel"http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif

It looks like the best combination is:

Regular cab 2500 with stick shift for mileage. I think this fellow had lighter alloy (17") rims also. I expect it was a roller (2x4) too.

Tell us more about the effect of mileage on the tires you have. Do you know what the tire circumference's are? What about the weight of tire and wheel?

Worst mileage:

Dually 3500 4x4 with Allison automatic.

By the way, in the mileage figures I quoted earlier, I was driving cross county in the summer and I had my air on most of the time.

The worst mileage I had was averaging 90 mph with the air on. 13 mpg.

Has anyone put Alcoa wheels on a D/A K3500? does that improve mileage any?

Mine is a 4x4, and my best numbers were with stock PYO aluminum wheels and the 245 Firestone pizza cutters. On the highway I lost ~2MPG going to the 17's and 315's (34.5" tall). The new set of wheels and tires weigh about 98lbs each, never weighed the stock ones but they are considerably lighter, I'm guessing 75lbs? Anyone shipped a set? I think that slightly larger tires will help fuel economy on the highway to an extent.. Past a certain point I think it starts working backwards.

FWIW, I did a 4400 mile trip to Oklahoma and back, cruise set at 85mph, average speed for the trip was 69mph (if I recall correctly) and only got 15mpg. No trailer, just two motorcycles, a heavy toolbox and a weeks worth of riding gear and light camping gear, maybe 1000lbs worth of cargo.

I am in Canada so I normally calculate in imperial gallons, since we go by liters, but all my mileage #s here are converted to US gallons. I think part of the reason I've been able to get such good numbers is that the speed limits here are 100km/h (62mph), and with the trip that I got 25 on, half of it was 90km/h highway. Mostly single lane highway through the mountains, about a 300 mile round trip, never exceeding the speed limit with the exception of passing folks.

I get 19mpg with my 6.5 diesel van on the same route which it does 6 days a week. If I drove most any of your trucks on the same route with the same driving habits I bet I'd get 20-25MPG depending on configuration. Keeping the RPM's below 2000 seem detrimental in attaining good mileage.

I have an '03 Crew cab 2500HD, I get around at best 15.9, why is this? Right now iam only getting 14.8?? I drive mostly highway (ave.60-75 mph) 90 miles round trip work to home! Shouldnt I be getting better fuel mileage?
