: Steering column wiring question????
Rattlewagon 04-10-2005, 09:37 PM While I was installing the high idle and the keyless idle mod from Max Power, (Tony thanks a million!!! Works great!!!) I was looking for the wiring that is for the "redundant radio controls". the only thing I could come up with were these;
Does anyone recognize these? Are they the wires for the DIC and Radio controls?
Max Power 04-10-2005, 10:43 PM One will be for the brake release shift interlock if you have an auto. I can't think of what the other two would be off hand.
I'm glad the mod worked. :D
Rattlewagon 04-11-2005, 01:47 PM Tony, I tried to find the harness for the DIC and radio controls when I was under there but i couldn't see where they were. Do you know where they might be under the dash?
thanks!

Max Power 04-11-2005, 01:54 PM Not off hand. Best bet is to contact Greg. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28597
BillB3857 04-11-2005, 11:31 PM According to page 11-118 and 8-1340 in Vol 5 of the Helm's FSM for 2004 models, the radio controls come out of the steering wheel through the clock spring and go directly to connector C201 and then on to the BCM. (C201 is a Black 52 position connector) One wire is Light Green and goes to pin B31 and the other is Pink and goes to pin B12. Only 2 wires are used since the Remote Radio Control switches simply switch in different value resistors and the BCM decides from the resistance value which button has been pressed, but you probably already knew thathttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif.
Hope this helps.

BillThanks Bill! Unfortunately now I have even more questions, I also have the Helms manual mine being for an '03. The problem is I can't seem to decipher them. My last truck was an '87; very easy. The '03 not so easy My page numbers are different but I think I found the correct page. I'll attach the photo and if you or someone would mind pointing out what all the numbers are for. Here's an example; 0.35, A2 or C2 for the same wire or 1796 right above C201!!! <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
I'm not that smart so this drives me crazy!!!

Rattlewagon 04-13-2005, 06:29 PM I looked again under my dash, I cant find any other connectors that arent doing anything. I tried to find some info in the manual but I just cant seem to figure out how to read the Censored thing
ok, ok Im finished
BillB3857 04-13-2005, 11:47 PM The 0.35 is the wire size in Metric. 0.35=22 AWG. the other letters are the pin numbers of the connector. For the drawing you sent, the C201 is the connector number, the B12 and B31 are the pin numbers of that connector.
C201 is made up of two 10 pin areas on either end of a 32 pin center area. It looks like the two 10 pin sections have larger pins than the center 32 pin section.
Somewhere in you book, there should be a page or two that show an outline of the connector with the pins identified and a table that lists each pin, the wire color, circuit number and function. Usually, it is very confusing to tell which end to start counting from so I usually match colors in a row to figure out which direction I'm going.
If I knew how, I'd post the pages that show the connector and the table. If you want to PM your e-mail address, I can email scans to you. It looks like the wiring is pretty much the same for the '03 and '04 in that area.
Hope this helps.
BillB3857 04-14-2005, 12:06 AM OOPS. Forgot to address the other codes in your picture. The A7 C3 and A2 C3 represent the pin and connector identifications on the BCM itself. A7 C3 is pin A7 on connector C3 which is the Brown 24 pin connector. It should have a light green wire on it and a Dark Green wire in the pin on one side and a Yellow wire in the pin on the other side of it. A2 C2 is pin A2 on connector C2 which is the Gray connector. According to my book, both pin A2 and A3 of C2 have dark blue wires. A2 will be the one closest to the end of the connector and should have a white wire just opposite it. The BCM has 5 different 24 pin connectors that all look alike except for color. C1 is only a 6 pin connector and is "NAT" color, whatever that is.

LanduytG 04-14-2005, 07:32 AM You will not find wires for the radio because its all done through the steering wheel and the BCM. To see if you have the correct wiring harness you will need to pop of the air bag and see if you have it. Being and 03 I doubt it. If you don't it will cost you at least $275 for a wheel and harness. I got my wheel out of the junk yard but it looks new. Just got the BCM recoded and the DIC turned on yesterday and total cost of mine upgrade was including the dealer to turn it on was $315. I really like it and is worht it IMHO.

What is the mod for no key idle?
Greg
Rattlewagon 04-14-2005, 11:14 AM Bill, Thanks for the clarification of the schematics, still kinda confusing but I think I can sort through it now! I will PM you shortly
Greg, I am looking for the wires that the coil would plug into. I guess what I'm asking is when you installed the new airbag coil where did you make the connections? I am searching for the existing connectors that the coil would connect to. Thats why I asked here; http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28597 whether or not you had taken any pics of the coil before you installed it, that way I could see if I could maybe match the connectors.
I highly recomend Tony's Keyless Idle Mod.:ro)
Now I can let my truck idle for however long I want and have it be somewhat secure
Thanks guys!
LanduytG 04-14-2005, 09:14 PM Sorry but I didn't take any pics. The new coil will come with a new harness and its just a matter of swapping out plug for plug. Very easy to do. When you get the coil you will see what I mean.

GregGreg, I have a base model. There has been some speculation as to whether the base models have the neccesary wiring from the factory. My truck did however come with factory CD and some other power features. But, like you said before $201 for the coil.... I'm just trying to make sure I have all the right stuff before I order one or I'll end up selling the coil on ebay or something ):h
thanks
dan
LanduytG 04-14-2005, 10:16 PM Mine is and 04 with am/fm cd cassett with cloth seats and manual heat controls. Not sure if this is a base model or not. Anyway you will not have anything there I am sure of that. But buying the coil kit will get you everthing you need except the steering wheel. The difference in the coil is for the steering wheel harness, it will have whats needed to hook it up.
Greg
Rattlewagon 04-15-2005, 03:29 PM Bill, I got the scans, thank you. It was exactly what I was looking for. I originally thought that the new coil would plug into a few "wild" connectors that were taped to the column or something.... I now realize that C201 is the big a$$ chunk of plastic I tapped into to hook up the keyless idle.
Thanks again to everyone who helped me out!!
