: Is This Normal??
NVRENUF 04-10-2005, 01:25 PM Is anyone else having this problem? I guess it isn't very noticeable on most trucks, but mine is lifted so when you open the door your looking right at it. Dealer says it is "normal oxidation". For the price of these trucks I don't think anything in the interior should have "normal oxidation". Was just wondering how many other trucks were like this before I go back to the dealer and make an a** out of myself.-:t
tophog 04-10-2005, 01:57 PM Horse chit ... it's convienent that they can call rust normal when in reality it's a result of the penny pinching and failure to properly paint/seal parts prone to rusting. I guess GM figures they are down by your feet ...who looks there?
Mackin 04-10-2005, 02:14 PM "vehicle is operating as designed"

aka108 04-10-2005, 02:58 PM Maybe normal if you live at the beach and jump into your truck with salt water wet flip flops but I doubt that you do. NO, doesn't look like normal to this viewer.
DEWFPO 04-10-2005, 03:07 PM IMHO GM has always used poor rustproofing if any. Or cheaper metals than the other manufacturers. In my experience, all GM products seem to start rusting as soon as you bring them home. It's really an embarrassment. I like GM products, but they sure work hard at 'cheapin' things out, and almost always have.

akdiesel 04-10-2005, 03:10 PM I am not sure what cost cutting GM has done with their vehicle, but I did hear that Ford cut down costs on there vehicles by simply not painting the inside of the ash tray. I did save them alot of money by doing this.
Maybe the same thing is going on here, but by having water or what ever on your shoes it would tend to corrode the metal if not protected.
BlueOx03 04-10-2005, 03:16 PM So don't get in you GM truck with wet shoes and don't smoke wet cigarettes in a Ford... Got it!
BTW-When the PS battery in my truck let go and the acid ate all the paint off the tray and it rusted out the GM dealer argued with my that it was normal...I don't give up that easy and got a new batt and tray on the house....

duramaximizer 04-10-2005, 03:22 PM ya dad's 6.0 had that battery problem. and he got new everything on the house. i have never seen peddles rust. i live in ohio and ours see salt and sand.... idk but it is definately not normal.
Bill Gisse 04-10-2005, 08:06 PM Not normal, make a report to your Customer Relations persom and take it to the dealer also. Make the report to the Customer Relations person after your visit to the dealer. GM needs to know you are concerned.
Reineke 04-10-2005, 08:43 PM My 90 had this issue. I understand your concern. Those parts are just oiled I believe. I think some time under there with wd40 and some elbow grease will clean them up nicely, but as was noted, with the price of these trucks, you shouldn't have to do that.
Mine look identical to yours, and I have 4100 miles on the truck now. Shocked me at first. Heck the ones on my '69 Mustang look better. Got the same answer from the dealer as you did. Gonna sand and paint them myself one of these nice weekends.
Bill Gisse 04-11-2005, 07:23 PM Said earlier that rust was not normal. A few minutes after that I went out and looked at mine and found both peadal arms were rusty. Called my Service Manager today and was told to bring it in and we'll lookat it. I remember back in 67 Gm had lots of rust problems with the Japanese steel, hope we aren't back to that agian.
NVRENUF 04-11-2005, 10:10 PM I appreciate the replys. It seems its just one thing after another with this truck and the lack of good service. This may be the proverbial straw, my camel has just about all he can handle.
arguy 04-11-2005, 10:36 PM so? go buy a new rubber tire back-hoe, parts rust, it is a piece of equipment.
rolloffhill 04-11-2005, 10:49 PM I agree ARGUY, if everything was absolutly perfect to a T then we would be paying a hell of a lot more for these things. Then everyone would be Censored ing about that. And who has time to go back and forth to a dealer to have these things checked out. My dash is peeling and there aint Censored I can do about it, warranty's up, whada ya gonna do??
NWDmax 04-11-2005, 11:13 PM Kinda of a so what imho.
I've got better things to do than worrying about rusty pedals.
Look at your driveline sometime if you really want a migraine!:duh:
