Dunno if this is the proper forum for this but here goes:
changing my fuel filter for the first time and the wire that attaches to the WIF sensor fell out of the WIF sensor. I look undre the truck and there's a little round white plastic cap that looks like it was part of the assembly too. Dunno how it fell out but now that it's apart how does it go back together? do I just push the assy back up to the top and replace the cap??

Are you talking about the octagon looking plastic thing?

it was attached to the octagon thingy. the little plastic disc that looks like it held the wires in is about 1/2" across.

I just went out to look at mine but didn't see much cause it's under the filter. I guess you could try to push those wires back into place. I didn't think that they could come off. Thought they were one piece.

yeah I just pushed it back together the way it looks like it had come apart. I wonder if that's supposed to be glued or something... stupid cheap plastic stuff

I wish I could answer that. I'm sure someone on here will chime in real soon to give you a definitive answer.

well I put it back together and buttoned everything up and ran the truck for a while, it seems OK. we'll see tommorow when I drive it around.
Thanks for helping out Duramaxdiesel!

I checked out the spare WIF Sensor I carry and it looks like you will OK to the put the plug/disk back in to hold the wires. Looks to be more or less a strain relief so the wires don't get yanked out of the sensor. I'm not sure if you noticed or not but the part where the wire goes into the sensor is completely isolated from the rest of the filter. In other words no fuel can get out or air get in from this location. I would glue or silicone it in so it doesn't fall out again. Looks to be a simple fix.
ya that will be fine waskier -- as long as wires are in place and your wif light stays out then your in good shape, wont affect running. -- had that happen on my buddys truck too -- we just put some rtv to hold the plastic spacer in place for good!
