Guys,
I'm seriously considering the purchase of an '07 2500HD (LBZ) with 52K miles. The truck appears to be well maintained and should meet my needs. However, the claim history shows an "EGR Valve Motor Replacement" at 16,500 miles.
Is this something that should warrant concern?
(This is the only mechanical claim in the truck's history.)

Known some EGRs to be replaced from the post here. But many post here are on issues so no real statics here as to those without this issue unless there was a poll on it. I wouldn't worry about that. One just ends up with more soot buildup through the EGR and intake unless a blocker plate is installed. I think this is one of the major killers of the EGR. EGR is an emissions item.

No but them failing is a somewhat of a common occurrence. Mine just went out at 55K and I'm going to block it off and disable it. If they fail you can still drive just fine.

No concern at all. EGR valves on all makes seem to be a trouble spot. Probably not the smartest thing anybody ever put on a diesel engine.

The EGR has got to be the biggest problems that I saw at the dealer. I would just block it and be done with it, besides your engine will run cleaner too.

Yup. Falls inline with the trans coolant lines and ISS. No worries.

My LBZ is blocked and has a fingerstick. Even so, at 15,000 my EGR failed and popped a code. The dealer said, "Bring it in when you have time. It won't hurt to drive it with the code showing." I never removed the stick, but did pop out the blocker plate, and the tech never noticed anything when he did the repair. I put the blocker back on right afterward.;)

For the finger stick to work you need a functioning egr. The best thing to do is block it and delete the codes with a tuner or EFI live..
