Hey guys,
I was going down interstate and my truck slowed down to 60 mph and would not go above 2000 rpm. When I stomped on the throttle the truck acted like it wanted to just down shift. My truck is a 2005 duramax

this is called limping, it's a safe mode so nothing gets damaged. With no other information you are providing there's not much we can do. This is also in the FAQ at teh top of the page that no one reads. ;-)

please use the search feature as this has been discussed at length for years.

I have had the limp mode before just not the feeling like it wants to down shift when I stomp on it. I plow snow and salt parking lots in the winter so I have been hauling about 2500lbs in the bed since January. I dont know if having that load all the time has any thing to do with it or not. My fuel filter life is at 45%. I have the Banks 6 gun with speed loader.

Let's just assume that your "filter life" message doesn't really mean anything. This might be a useful "timer", but it does not detect obstructions any better than the "oil life" reading. If you were to reset it, you would magicly have 100%. Since your have not stated whether or not you have codes, the fuel filter is the first thing to check.

if you have a code it sounds like the truck defueled itself and now the truck is now allowing you to go over 2000 rpms. this is sometimes caused by a clogged fuel filter or a programming useing to much fuel. if you have a code delete it and change your filter and see how it does then

Mine did this Friday. Swapped out the fuel filter and I was good to go. Haven't had the problem since. GL

Careful with the easy fix (fuel filter). Mine did exactly what yours did-twice-and I change the fuel filter every other oil change. In my case it was the #7 injector the last time. It is a limp mode that will only let you go so fast/so many rpm.
