As you can tell from my user name, this is all very new to me. It was recommended at the last service that a "diesel carbon service" be performed at the next service. Well, it is time for that service - appointment on Tuesday - and I would like to know a little about this service. What is it? How important is it? That sort of stuff so that I feel a little more comfortable when I take the truck in for service.
Thanks...

It sounds like a very important service on your wallet more than anything else.

OK, since you guys were such a "big" help, I did a little researach to learn what this carbon service is all about. The idea is to remove any carbon buildup on the top of the pistons and the intake valves. Now, if you pull a load such as we do - full time RVers pulling a 14500 lb 5th wheel - this is not a problem because the engine temperatures get hot enought to burn off this carbon. For those that use their trucks as mainly commuting vehicles, this can be a problem.
The process in the "old" days was to inject water into the intake manifold. There may be some really cool aerosol spray this is now used.
I'm going to pass on the service.
