Taking delivery of 4500 Kodiak diesel in a couple of weeks. My normal insurance company doesn't know what I'm talking about. They only say it's going to be expensive. Does anyone know of an insurance company in California that can give me a resonable rate on a medium duty. Thanks

Try Allstate. It's commercial insurance. about 2000/yr in AZ. Don't know in CA.

I use State Farm, for my 4500, which I use non commercially. I pay $1100 per year, have 250 deducts, and free glass.

You will not like it.

Insuring any truck with GVW >= 10001 lbs in CA is a real pain in the wallet.

Are you looking for fire & theft or general liability? Pay off any loan you
have and consider getting a personal umbrulla instead of a high cost truck-specific policy. You need to find somebody with a brain, a really rare commodity in the insurance business.

There are a few tricks. Is it a 4-door? If so have a pickup bed installed
on it and register it at a 9900 lb GVW. Will it be used as an RV? If so
try a "housecar converions". If it is 'just a truck', you will just pay.

If you belong to Good Sam try there ins. or Camping World both use GMAC Ins. I have had excellant luck with them for the last 12 years. They wer and still are over $400 a year cheaper than other companys.

I did some checking mentioned and found Camping World does have the best deal but my company(State Farm) will meet it after the multi-veh discounts. Looks like the rate in CO half of what I'll have to pay in CA but camparable to AZ. I have the truck now and getting it ready for vacation. Thanks for the replys.

Just bought a 2004 Chevy 4500 Kodiak to pull my 5th wheel trailer. My Motorists Mutual agent claimed that since I would never use the truck commercially, she called the main office to get it on my personal policy. It took her 2 days to get an answer but it was worth it. Full coverage insurance w/ $250 deductable will run me about $600/yr, but I have 5 cars on this policy, so I got a large discount.

I ordered it through my dealer from Monroe. They are a GM upfitter. I got the air ride suspension, it rides better than my 2500 HD. Got the companion fifth-wheel hitch also. They also installed the tube grill, step bars, and stainless wheel covers. The fit and finish is excellent. The total weight of the truck is now just a tad over 10,000 lbs.
