95 burb 02-12-2009, 05:30 PM if you remember about two weeks ago i had hit a mini van well do to the oil cooler blowing and the pmd being destroyed they are totaling the truck which is fine i will buy back and still have a good truck but they are trying to tell me that they are only going to give me 3400 for truck i just thought it was kind of funny and needed to share
jamierayo 02-12-2009, 05:55 PM Well, I hate to say it, but that's probably low blue book for it, and that's all the insurance will ever pay. When dealing with any type of insurance claim, the only people who come out ahead are the scammers, crooks & liars.
The good part is, they will usually sell the salvage back pretty cheap. That's how my experiences have been, anyway.
Look up your truck's value here: http://www.kbb.com
DetroitDan 02-13-2009, 12:56 AM my friend argued with his ins. co. and they kept bumping it up until he was happy. they tried to stonewall him but he just refused to accept their offer. I think they automatically try to lowball everybody, and most people don't deal with it enough that they dont even know they can haggle over it.
My question would be, if you get the total amount up are they going to just try to get more for the salvage?
Are you talking about the truck in your sig? $3400 doesn't sound awful bad considering the mileage (they can't differentiate between gas or diesel, so it's high). There's some around for sale in that ballpark with a lot less miles, and while they are "worth it" all day long, they are not selling due to the fact that no one has any money to spend on them. There's two near me that I would buy in a heartbeat of I had $3500 to spend. And I missed out on one with 185k for $2500.

I did the same thing dont take the first offer they will give you a low offer because most of the time people will take it I refused for weeks until they gave me what I wanted I also told them I wanted the salvage as part of the deal also.
BigBlueChevy 02-13-2009, 11:42 AM Phalfhide made a good point and I agree with him.
Refuse the "offer" until you get what you want and tell them you want the truck to be part of the deal. You have rights, fight for them.

I am so glad you stated it like you did... You make me look like a scammer, crook, or a liar LMAO!!!!!
I got around $7800 for my truck when I totalled it in '07. I originally paid $6500 for it January, bought it back from insurance company for ~$400 in June (when I totalled it).
I think my first price they gave me was like 7000, but I told them I had new tires (only 1k miles) and a few aftermarket parts on there and they bumped it up 800 or so.
thefermanator 02-13-2009, 12:15 PM I'm not sure about your state, but in FLORIDA they are required to pay replacement cost of your vehicle. I went through this on my COMANCHE pickup I had. They said they would only pay me $1200 for it even though similiar trucks were bringing $3-4K. They jerked me around for 2 months on it. I called a friend of mine who is a lawyer and he got me $5300 for it and I got to keep it. They agreed to pay me $3500 replacement cost and since they jerked me around so long they had to pay me loss of useage to cover a rental or replacement while they sat around low balling me. Unfortuneatly right now is a bad time for vehicle prices on large SUV's, but go onto autotrader and see what similiar vehicles in your area are selling for. Print out 2 or 3 of them and call the insurance company back with what they are going for and request that figure.
MOST insurance policies are required to pay replacement cost for your property, this is how they get away with using used parts as your vehicle was used to begin with. But this also means that they have to pay you what it would cost to replace that vehicle in the current market and place.
bk95td 02-13-2009, 02:11 PM I think a letter from a lawyer will get them coming your way alot faster than talking to them yourself. It shows you mean business and won't accept anything other than retail value. Loss of use is also a good weapon. Salvage value is very low now due to low scrap price. If it is at your house they should have to pay you storage also. Lawyers don't usally charge very much to send a letter.
WhiteK2500 02-13-2009, 02:43 PM Huh... Well, I didn't get dicked around with my ins. when I wrote off the 95 truck.
First offer was 10,000$ and change.
Now you all know why I have so much engine work done :p:
Only had 2000$ left on the 95, that had me down to 8K then 4K for this truck, and just about 4K into the engine.
I also had 250K Kms
I'd tell them that's not even enough to replace the engine, let alone the whole vehicle.
Something ain't right.... then again, most of these issues seem to happin in the states.
Did I mention I only paid 5K for the 95, and then 2K for the rebuilt tranny.... I made 3K Lol
